In this exciting role as a Senior Mechanical/Materials Sensor RD Engineer, you will have responsibility for designing and developing patient monitoring consumables, specifically focusing on materials.


The Minimally Invasive Therapies Group strives to enable earlier diagnosis, better treatment, faster complication-free recovery, and enhanced patient outcomes through less invasive surgical solutions

RESPIRATORY, GASTROINTESTINAL INFORMATICS (RGI) offers a complete line of solutions that spans the continuum of care. We help with early detection and treatment of diseases, and reduce complications to accelerate recovery from patient conditions. We focus on expanding global access to our therapies that improve clinical outcomes for gastrointestinal diseases and cancer, and patients with respiratory compromise.

**A Day in the Life**

You will analyze, research, design and develop materials and their related fabrication and application processes to develop and optimize flexible, thin-film materials for use in engineering design of and/or application in patient monitoring consumable products

You will be involved with the full product life cycle, including early phase technology development and product development and continuing throughout the product lifetime

You will lead and provide guidance in the design and development of patient monitoring consumable prototypes, verification/validation units and product specifications, including material specifications, assembly drawings and manufacturing documentation

You will interpret specifications, international standards and regulatory requirements for all aspects of product design, including materials, and apply them to Patient Monitoring consumable products

You will design test fixtures, equipment and data analysis methods to evaluate design capability of material choices for the design and development of patient monitoring consumables

You will have continual awareness of new and advancing technologies, including material related advances, and be able to provide conceptual and practical applications for patient monitoring consumable products across the Patient Monitoring portfolio

**Must Have: Minimum Requirements**

+ Bachelors degree required

+ Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience

**Nice to Have**

Bachelors Degree in Mechanical or Materials Engineering with 4+ years of experience

Demonstrated hands-on experience in technology and product development, i.e., taking design requirements from concept through final design

Thorough understanding and wide application of technical principals, theories and concepts in mechanical and material engineering

Knowledge and experience working with thin films, laminates, adhesives, epoxies, and foams.

Experience with flexible material manufacturing, conversion, and assembly processes

Knowledge in the mechanics of adhesion and adhesive failure modes

Demonstrated experience with medical grade materials and complying with RoHS, biocompatibility, etc.

Demonstrated capability of defining and writing requirements to clearly specify product needs

Demonstrated experience working with suppliers, vendors, manufacturers

General knowledge of related principals including electromechanical, tissue optics, physiological signals, etc.

Ability to apply engineering analysis techniques and tools (SolidWorks, Matlab, Minitab, Excel, Ansys, etc.)

Strong problem solving and analytical skills with high attention to detail

Effective communication and presentation skills at all levels of the organization

Experience and capability of working with global and/or remote team members

Demonstrated clear, direct and succinct technical writing ability

Ability to handle concurrent projects and be able to successfully manage time and priorities

Bachelors Degree in Mechanical or Materials Engineering plus 8 years of experience

Masters Degree in Mechanical or Materials Engineering plus 6 years of experience
