**This position is located in Overland Park, KS**

Primary Duties

  • This position is for a Mechanical Engineer in the Mechanical Purchased Products Engineering Department
  • This requisition will be responsible for mentoring, leadership and technical guidance across the department in the following areas:  mechanical and electro-mechanical assemblies, testing, handling, and transportation equipment, and various mechanical components within the supply base
  • Additional duties and responsibilities include: Provides leadership, guidance and technical direction in development, qualification and steady-state production efforts of various purchased components and assemblies for current, emerging and legacy programs at the Kansas City National Security Campus
  • Pro-active in identifying potential complications and resolutions, with regard to product, supplier base and strategic departmental initiatives
  • Develops risk mitigation strategies as a result of the requirements matrix and the available resources within the business
  • Actively manages the supply base and fosters positive relationships with suppliers.
  • Responsible for supplier performance and improvement opportunities to ensure timely and quality delivery.
  • Regularly assess supply base capacity and addresses sourcing risks through identification and on-boarding of new suppliers and development of existing supplier capabilities
  • Interacts with design agencies, suppliers and internal organizations to assist in resolving design, development, production and acceptance issues
  • Assists in the preparation of product or project definitions, manufacturing drawings and specifications, and test equipment designs
  • Identifies and executes continuous improvement opportunities and defect preventions throughout the life cycle of the product
  • Negotiates budget and schedule changes
  • Uses business knowledge to evaluate and prioritize business opportunities based on economic and technical factors
  • Willingness to travel up to 25%

    You Must Have:

    • Six or more years of relevant experience in engineering of products or processes or comparable related technical activities, including application of advanced engineering principles and technology related to highly complex technical assignments.
    • Demonstrated experience in project leadership.
    • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited Engineering program, or a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from an accredited program.
    • A broad knowledge of manufacturing or quality processes and techniques.
    • Ability to apply advanced design, development, evaluation, and quality control techniques to highly complex Mechanical Engineering concepts and projects.
    • Ability to work without supervision, with latitude for independent action and decision making.
    • Ability to provide technical guidance, project management, consultative services, and innovative solutions.
    • US citizenship to obtain and maintain US Department of Energy \"Q\" level security clearance

      We Value:

      • Currently active Q or Top Secret security clearance highly desired
      • Mechanical Engineering degree preferred
      • Advanced degree in engineering or engineering management
      • Seven (7) or more years of experience preferred
      • Experience interacting with and presenting to multiple levels of technical stakeholders, customers, vendors and suppliers
      • Exceptional verbal, written and presentation skills
      • Knowledge and results of continuous improvement methodologies including Six Sigma
      • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment to include GD&T, CMM, machined metals, glass ceramics and/or plastics production
      • Proven ability in decision making and organization, planning and problem solving skills 
        Ability to work under minimal supervision, with latitude for independent action and decision making.
      • Good people skills; ability to work in and motivate teams to produce on-target and timely results.
      • Ability to plan and organize, demonstrate excellent time management and support several projects at once
