Job Summary

AECOM is seeking experienced, creative, and highly talented Senior Mechanical Engineer in Norfolk, VA. The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Senior technical resource may serve as technical advisor for team

  • Provides specialized technical input to studies and design for staff's specific area of expertise

  • Develops study and design procedures to facilitate high quality cost effective work by others

  • Participates in interdisciplinary review of project deliverables

  • Develops construction cost estimates and estimates of technical efforts for projects

  • Uses expertise in all steps of completing discipline component of PS&E package

  • Performs quality control review of design calculations or drawings

  • Prepares technical specification sections

  • Provides input to the development of engineering budget and schedule to meet requirements

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree & 6+ Years of relevant experience; Or Associates Degree + 8 Years of relevant experience; Or High school Diploma/GED + 10 Years of relevant experience

  • Must possess a valid driver's license and clean driving record

  • Must pass a State and Federal criminal history/security pre-employment background check

  • Must pass pre-employment drug screen

  • Physically able, with or without an accommodation, to work and walk in outdoor/construction site environments with uneven terrain, variable outdoor conditions including heat, cold, noise, and moisture.Position requires often standing/walking; occasionally perform repetitive bending and stooping, operation of vehicles, climbing of stairs, keyboard/mouse operations, repetitive or fine hand movements, work alone in isolated/remote areas, and lifting less than 25 pounds; rarely working with arms above shoulder level, power gripping/squeezing (hand tools, levers, etc.), working at heights, using portable ladders, wearing fall protection, working in an environment of heavy, moving, dangerous equipment, and working in confined spaces. Position will include wearing associated personal protective equipment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A minimum of 10 years of professional mechanical engineering code compliant facilities design experience for new construction, including renovation design experience, is required.

  • Education, Completion of a course of studies accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineers and Technology (ABET) for a mechanical engineering program from a college or university earning a bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical engineering, supplemented by a considerable amount of hands-on facilities design experience, is required.

  • Must have current and proven HVAC design experience.

  • The employee has the ability to apply new developments or experimental theories in mechanical engineering to problems not readily treatable by conventionally accepted methods. The engineer has obtained a mastery of advanced concepts, principles and

  • practices in mechanical engineering that enables them to serve as a recognized subject matter expert.

  • Applies engineering skills to effectively assess customer's requirements and develop innovative solutions.

  • An in-depth knowledge of DOD and Navy guide specifications, criteria and policy, industry codes and standards, and standard practices as related to mechanical engineering design, including the ASHRAE 90.1, 189.1, 62.1, and 55 standards, and the International Mechanical Code.

  • An in-depth knowledge of local, state, federal, and foreign country laws, codes, and other statutory requirements affecting mechanical engineering design throughout the NAVFAC AOR.

  • Knowledge of related architectural and engineering fields and their associated impacts as related to mechanical engineering design.

  • Knowledge and experience with Autodesk software, Microsoft Office products, mechanical engineering design and analysis software and other applicable DoD computer systems and software used by the Command.

  • Ability to produce results of analysis in writing and consolidate findings of others and evaluate recommendations and facts.

  • Ability to make oral presentations of proposed designs and results of studies.

  • Knowledge of budgeting, planning and project management techniques, including the ability to coordinate the work of others and lead teams.

  • Knowledge of and full compliance with Safety Policy and Guidance and use of personal protective equipment.
