Senior Manager, Associate Relations Consulting Team Lead

Are you looking for a role leading a team of associates focused on consulting with the business to assist in problem solving? Our HR Associate Relations team is looking for someone who is motivated, willing to take on new and challenging opportunities, and take the initiative to make our most important asset - our people - work smoothly.

The Senior Manager, Associate Relations Consulting Team Lead position leads a team of associates who are responsible for providing strategic partnership, consulting with business leaders on Associate Relations metrics and proactively seeking resolutions to formal employment complaints,conduct issues, and performance concerns. The Consulting Team Lead will also be responsible for working directly with senior business and HR leaders on escalated Associate Relations matters.  


  • Lead a team of employee relations consultants acting as a coach and subject matter expert
  • Exhibit a high level of people leadership skills, including development, performance/talent management, and accountability; model the values of Capital One people leadership - include, empower, and inspire
  • Guide consultants through casework, providing coaching and sharing of best practices.  As needed, coach consultants on areas for improvement
  • On individual matters, help managers, associates and business leaders reconcile conflicts and disputes
  • Review team cases to ensure casework is documented in a thorough and objective manner
  • Complete formal Quality Assurance audits on a monthly basis
  • Partner with other Consulting Team Leads to ensure case methodologies are applied consistently across lines of business
  • Consistently look for ways to enhance casework techniques based on the developments in employment law trends
  • Investigate and resolve all types of employment complaints, including harassment, discrimination, retaliation, wage and hour issues, interpersonal conflict, wrongful termination, etc.
  • Partner with other departments such as Legal, Ethics & Investigations, and Security to ensure legal and regulatory compliance while identifying solutions
  • Review departmental case data to identify trends and recommend action plans for business units to implement
  • Partner with the line of business Human Resources Consultants to ensure consistent employee relations approach and policy application across the enterprise
  • Review and provide recommendations on policies and procedures that support the associate experience
  • Tailor and deliver communications in an effective, measured way to help influence the right outcomes with stakeholders and mitigate risk to the company
  • Act as a role model and champion for Capital One values
  • Participate in internal projects which improve processes that require partnership with cross functional teams and integrative problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of employment law and employment practices

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree or Military experience
  • At least 5 years of Human Resources experience
  • At least 5 years of client management experience
  • At least 3 years of people management experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least 7 years of experience working in a team environment and collaborating with multiple stakeholders
  • At least 7 years of Human Resources experience, with a focus on employee relations
  • At least 5 years of people management experience at the exempt level
  • SHRM-CP/SCP, PHR/SPHR, or related/similar certifications
