L3Harris is currently searching for an Information Security Systems Engineer (ISSE) at the Sr. Engineer level to join our team in Salt Lake City, UT. A comprehensive relocation package is available for qualified candidates.

As an Information Security Systems Engineer at L3Harris Technologies, you will be involved in the design and development of communication capabilities that enable the warfighter and save lives.  These communications systems range from small embedded devices to enterprise systems for airborne, ground, and/or nautical platforms. The ISSE works with internal stakeholders (other ISSEs, systems engineers, software engineers, and hardware engineers) as well as external stakeholders (customers, assessors, and authorization officials) to define, design, implement, verify, and obtain accreditation for both the systems themselves as well as any associated cryptographic products.

ISSEs work at the systems level, understanding the designs and interactions of the system hardware and software components. As such, the ISSE must not only be technically astute but also possess excellent communications skills in order to clearly communicate technical status and potential issues to internal and external customers. Willingness to adapt to change, focus on timeliness, and ability to collaborate in joint decision making processes are essential.

Baseline Qualifications:

Education (in order of preference)

  • ABET (EAC/CAC) accredited Masters’ of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field and at least 3 years’ related experience, or
  • Bachelors’ degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related field and at least 7 years’ related experience, or
  • At least 10 years’ on-the-job experience related to Information Systems Security Engineering

    Certification (DoD 8140/8570)

    • Must possess one of the following certifications at time of hire, or obtain one within 6 months of hire: CISSP (or Associate), CASP+ CE, or CSSLP

      US Gov’t Clearance:

      • Must be able to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI security clearance.

        Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

        • Self-starter: capable of working independently in a task/project structure, with the ability to assign, track, and execute tasks across multiple programs
        • Effective oral and written communicator and negotiator, able to highlight the significance and impact of information security issues in non-technical terms and negotiate appropriate cost-effective resolutions
        • Familiar with communications systems, including computer networking concepts, protocols (incl. TCP/IP), and security methodologies
        • Clearly understands Security Engineering’s contributions to the achievement of business objectives
        • Experience with at least one of the following: RMF, CNSSI 1253, DJSIG, NSA High Assurance / Cryptographic Module certification, FIPS 140-2 or 140-3, or NIAP/Common Criteria
        • Identifies system and subsystem information security requirements, defines and integrates information security architectures into overall product technical architectures, and determines testing requirements and methodologies.
        • Effectively uses security engineering principles and processes to meet mission needs and customer expectations, to include planning for, generating, and peer reviewing all artifacts relevant to the Assessment & Authorization process in use
        • Effectively applies experience, design patterns, processes, and technologies to support the development and implementation of cost-effective products and solutions, including assessment and mitigation of system threats and risks throughout the program life cycle
        • Initiates and maintains beneficial working relationships with internal and external stakeholders at senior, peer, and junior levels
        • Participates on matrixed development teams (hardware, software, systems engineers) to evaluate, develop, and integrate new products to be deployed within size, weight, and power-constrained mission-critical environments
        • Contributes to technical aspects of business proposal preparation
        • Contributes to strategic R&D roadmaps for the development and transition of new security architectures and capabilities for embedded systems
        • Acts as an expert technical advisor to program leadership in the area of cybersecurity
        • Effectively handles complex assignments and quickly grasps, applies new information
        • Strong problem-solving, creative thinking, and multi-tasking skills

          Desired but not mandatory

          • Strong background in radio frequency communications
          • Experience with JCIDS and DoDAF
          • Experience with IA vulnerability testing and related network and system test tools; e.g., Retina, NMap, Nessus, OSCAP, Security Content Automation Protocol (SCAP)
          • Strong scripting skills to automate system configuration and validation of security mechanisms
          • Experience with TEMPEST, Anti-Tamper, High Assurance cryptography, or other system security specialties
          • Gov’t advisory/assistance as SETA/A&AS contractor in Cybersecurity-related role
          • Agile development processes
          • Experience with government compliance applications such as Xacta, and eMASS
          • Other security or technical certifications: CEH, MCSE, CCNA, Red Hat, Network+, SANS GIAC, CEH, Security+, CCNA Security, CCNP Security, etc.

            Schedules Available (workload permitting):

            • Regular (8 hr/day, 5 days/week)
            • Flex  (9 hr/day, every other Friday off)
            • Flex (10 hr/day, every Friday off)

              Ability to travel up to 25% is required.
