Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a senior engineer with experience in water resources and NPDES stormwater compliance in our Raleigh, North Carolina office. In this role, the successful candidate will lead water resources and stormwater engineering projects related to federal, state, and municipal clients. The candidate will serve in a senior client-focused role leading and managing projects and will be responsible for mentoring junior staff.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 8+ years of experience with municipal and federal facility stormwater programs, Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP), Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasure (SPCC) Plans, Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) permits, and stormwater compliance. The candidate will work collaboratively with other team members and will be responsible for the coordination and completion of various project elements. The candidate will be responsible for executing project work, producing high-quality deliverables, maintaining project schedules, coordinating with clients, contributing to practice growth, and mentoring junior staff. Responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing SWPPPs and SPCC Plans and assisting clients with related compliance activities.

  • Preparation of stormwater design and construction documents, inspection checklists, reports, assessments, public education/outreach materials, etc.

  • Provide technical support in the areas of environmental and stormwater management research, fieldwork, stormwater analysis, and stormwater monitoring.

  • Evaluate stormwater programs and project costs.

  • Perform field investigations to support stormwater program implementation, stormwater site assessments, and pollutant reduction plans.

  • Attend client meetings and coordinate with regulatory agencies.

  • Coordinate with AECOM project team members (and subcontractors when used).

  • Participate in local and regional water resources organizations, as appropriate on behalf of AECOM.

  • Some local travel will be required (within North Carolina).

  • Occasional travel outside of the local area may be required.

Minimum Requirements

  • BS in Civil/Environmental Engineering, or related field

  • Minimum 8+ years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and / or education

  • US Citizen able to work on federal facilities

  • Experience working in the capacity of a project manager

  • Experienced in business development and client relationship management with municipal, state, and federal agencies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience developing SWPPP and SPCC plans.

  • Experience developing strategies and planning documents related to stormwater management.

  • Transportation NPDES permit experience.

  • Experience and confidence to work independently to produce high-quality deliverables on time and on budget.

  • Ability to interact appropriately with regulatory personnel and clients for routine tasks.
