National Grid is hiring a Senior Reliable Engineer for our Hicksville, NY location.

Job Purpose

The Reliability Engineer reports to the PED Reliability Engineering Manager and supports internal team members and external consultants on repairs and improvements to the existing fleet of steam and combustion turbine units on Long Island.  This position is responsible to inspect, evaluate, engineer and design structural supports for high energy piping and critical fuel piping.  Assessments shall include, but are not limited to, piping and support equipment structural analysis, options, business alternatives, cost/benefit analysis, risk analysis and project performance evaluations.  The engineer will support Non-Destruction Evaluation (NDE) at power plants, gas equipment locations, corporate facilities and offsite locations. Inspections will be performed in support of the Corporate NDE program.  The person in this role is responsible to develop and implement improvements to the steam and combustion turbine units as part of the capital improvement and maintenance programs in support of the asset management plans.  This position will include project engineer, project design, contract management and project management responsibilities.  The engineer will evaluate all aspects of project design, licensing, procurement, construction, commissioning and operations on all projects.  This role is responsible to develop drawings, specifications, standards and procedures on projects.  The position is an essential contributor to our goal of asset management and technology modernization.

Key Accountabilities
  • Provide responses to the PED Reliability Engineering Manager.
  • Manage condition assessment inspections of high energy piping, piping supports and boiler components.
  • Mechanical analysis, structural analysis and finite element analysis.
  • Piping and support surveys (hot and cold piping/support positions).
  • Specify, implement and evaluate non-destructive testing.
  • Engineer and design piping systems.
  • Project engineer and/or project lead on existing generating assets and new energy development opportunities.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting of mechanical field installations
  • Perform mechanical engineering calculations in accordance with latest codes and industry standards.
  • Develop specifications, standards and procedures for mechanical projects.
  • Develop man-hour, material and service cost estimates.
  • Develop cost benefit analysis and risk assessment on projects.
  • Prepare and review detailed drawings of physical arrangements, diagrams and schematics in AutoCAD.
  • Assemble piping drawing work packages and prepare transmittal documents.
  • Perform field surveys to support identify field conditions and design development.
  • Recognize and mitigating hazards.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.  Advanced credentials preferred. 
  • NYS Professional Engineer Certification preferred.
  • Certifications in NDE techniques desirable.
  • 5-10 years of related power plant mechanical or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with power generating equipment and support systems, inspecting piping and structural installations and with pipe stress analysis application programs.
  • Experience working with other engineering disciplines.
  • Experience with AutoCAD
  • Familiar with piping (ASME B31.1) and welding codes (ASME Section IX).
  • Experience managing teams, project management, construction, commissioning and operation preferred.
  • Experience in project cost/benefit and risk analysis.
  • Knowledge of industry trends and innovation and new technologies.
  • Valid NYS Driver’s License
