Senior Director, Supply Chain & Logistics

Pacific Biosciences is seeking a talented, driven, well-rounded and experienced Supply Chain Senior Director to lead our materials procurement, management, and distribution activities in Menlo Park, California. The ideal candidate possesses the skill and vision necessary to lead a world class supply chain strategy for the company. They must also have, experience in all aspects of Supply Chain management, strong interpersonal skills for dealing across all levels of the organization, and the project management skills necessary to maintain the requisite systems and processes in place. 




The qualified candidate has demonstrated the ability to pursue innovative solutions based on an accurate assessment of business and technical requirements. They must also ensure that, as the company grows, supply chain capabilities meet or exceed all industry, regulatory, and customer requirements for cost, quality, and responsiveness.  The candidate must also have demonstrated the ability to assess and continually improve programs on systems deployed to keep them current and relevant. 


 


Because this is a fast-paced and dynamic environment, the candidate must demonstrate the ability to smoothly transition between a hands-on, willing to get my hands dirty mode and a senior management delegation and empowerment mode and back as circumstances dictate.



This position reports to the VP of Manufacturing. 



As Senior Director of Supply Chain, the candidate will be accountable for: 



Strategy 



  • Drive the development and adoption of a three-year strategic supply chain strategy including subcontracting and outsourcing world-wide.

  • Play an active role in senior-level negotiations with key suppliers and manufacturing partners to secure critical components in the supply chain. 

  • Play a leadership role in the enhancements of Enterprise Software to continue to support and enable the companys business strategies. 

  • Work with the Development team to establish strategies for suppliers and partners selection in the early phase of new products Development. 

  • Play an active role in working with Finance, Quality, Program Management and other cross-functional teams to maintain systems compliant with Sarbanes Oxley, ISO, and other regulatory bodies. 





Execution 



  • Optimize and effectively leverage resources. Drive continuous improvement. 

  • Direct all purchasing and material planning, as well as, and shipping/receiving  and logistics activities including distribution, outsourcing and subcontracting to ensure that products are on time with consistent quality. 

  • Work with Manufacturing and Development Engineering to qualify new suppliers as needed.

  • Work with cross-functional teams to drive effective change which directly contributes to reduced costs, increased manufacturing turns, enhanced efficiency, and other improvements company-wide.





Management/People 



  • Provide strong management leadership. Manage employees and hands-on operation of the companys supply chain function. 

  • Establish strong partnerships with vendors/suppliers to ensure consistent delivery of manufacturing products at all time, for improved performance metrics including cost and quality. 

  • Maintain and improve key supply agreements. 

  • Mentor and cross train staff members and foster a healthy team environment through coaching, performance management, career development, and allocation and prioritization of work. 

  • Develop staff core competencies in anticipation of business needs through training of existing staff and recruitment of candidates with required skill sets as appropriate. 

  • Develop and champion structured Product Development disciplines within the Supply Chain function. 

  • Establish relationships with Research and Development to influence manufacturing design fluidity as products transition to commercial release.

Position Requirements: 



  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in supply chain management in an ISO certified organization and 5 years of experience leading a supply chain management team. 

  • Experience in materials management, from planning through purchasing, and negotiation and administration of multimillion-dollar procurement agreements. 

  • Established relationships with the full range of worldwide sub-contract manufacturers and familiarity with their capabilities, pricing strategies, and negotiation tactics. 

  • Success deploying commercial components into high-volume production with fast time-to-market and cost-sensitivity requirements. 

  • Self-starter and a team player that will thrive in an entrepreneurial environment. 

  • Large- and small-company experience, ideally in leading manufacturing in a rapid-change environment. 

  • A proven track record of delivering on commitments within timeline and budget is required. 

  • Experience in a company whose products are moved through multiple distribution channels. Experience with Oracle, Salesforce, Camstar and SAP are highly desirable.

  • Demonstrated high level skills in project management and win-win negotiation.

  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills. Excellent written and oral skills. Articulate and persuasive with executive presence. 

  • Strong mentoring, team building and alignment skills with the ability to drive new concepts. Strong facilitation and collaboration skills. 

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Routinely engages in independent thought and judgment in developing methods, techniques and evaluation criteria. 

  • A clear understanding of quality, regulatory standards is a plus. 

  • Bachelors degree, MBA degree is a plus.
