The Michael G. Foster School of Business currently has an outstanding opportunity for a SENIOR COMPUTER SPECIALIST.

The Systems Engineer is responsible for all infrastructure and computer systems operating on premise or cloud based solutions and work to ensure maximum uptime for the business school. Working with a diverse group of faculty, staff and students, this position is solely responsible for analyzing, designing, implementing, and managing lab services. They will exercise judgment in determining priority of requests and manage vendor relationships for facilitating procurement of goods and services and technical support.

The current IT systems in place that are designed, deployed, secured, and administered by the position, which will also redesign and replace include:
  • Nutanix & AHV hyperconverged cluster storage and compute supporting classroom and seminar space within the Foster School buildings
  • Citrix XenDesktop VDI system complex multi-serve virtual desktop infrastructure brokering and management system to support approximately 100 virtual desktops in classroom and seminar space within the Foster School buildings
  • VMware vSan & ESXi hyperconverged cluster storage and compute to support the Foster Remote Access lab
  • VMare Horizon VDI system complex multi-server virtual desktop infrastructure brokering and management system to support approximately 200 virtual desktops for the Foster Remove Access Lab
  • Citrix AppLayering (formerly Unidesk) servers application and storage server supporting highly responsive image creation and maintenance within the Foster School buildings and Remote Access Lab
  • Systems and servers supporting multi-user computers Windows Deployment Services server, Microsoft Deployment Toolkit server, Windows Software Update Services server, web and file servers, Sophos Cloud service
  • Create and maintain relevant images presentation spaces (classroom, event, conference room) and checkout laptop images
  • Systems and servers supporting Digital Signage FWI Cloud service, content web server, content file server, data integration server
  • Create and maintain relevant image digital signage image
  • System and servers supporting academic applications SQL Server, Jira, network licensing services, Argus
  • Network administration and management for the above related systems

    Specialized Technologies used include:
  • Nutanix: AHV, Acropolis OS
  • Citrix: XenDesktop, AppLayering (Unidesk)
  • VMare: vSan, ESXi, vCenter, vROPS, Horizon
  • Microsoft Server: Active Directory, File Server, SQL Server, WDS, WSUS, MDT, IIS, Storage Spaces, MDOP
  • Dell: Force10 switching, 8th and 9th generation server hardware, iDRAC, Open Manage Enterprise, Support Assist
  • Scripting via powershell, bash, command line
  • Operating Systems: Windows Server, Windows, Linux (most commonly CentOS), MacOS

    Other areas of responsibility include:
  • Support miscellaneous academic and research requests as they pertain to other skills and responsibilities
  • Report to, support, and back up primary systems engineer
  • Train and plan transition of existing systems to Azure or AWS, our current cloud partners
  • Administrate Foster School NetID Active Directory Domain delegated OU presence
  • Administrate legacy Business School Active Directory Domain
  • Administrate any Foster IT systems including on-premises, cloud, laas,(Infructure as Service)PaaS, and SaaS solutions
  • Collaborate with partners both on and off campus to facilitate the mission of Foster Business School

    Academic Lab Systems supported: computer labs and public spaces, IT systems


    System Analysis, Development / Design, and Prototype: 60%
  • Perform information collection and analysis to determine the needs of the school by consulting with faculty and staff
  • Perform research, evaluate of potential solutions, meet with vendors to review solutions
  • Assess user needs and create a system design which includes hardware, software, and system functional specifications
  • Deploy test environments and proof of concept systems to ensure viability of designed system

    Installation, evaluation, system support: 20%
  • Procure; work with management to budget for, procure, receive, and inventory hardware and software
  • Install; provisions storage, compute network, or other hardware physical or virtual per design and need, provision hypervisors, storage software operating systems, databases, web hosting applications, end user applications, security systems or cloud system per design or need
  • Configure; modify above hardware, software, or cloud solution as needed to fit design and function appropriately
  • Validation; test system for expected function

    System Security and maintenance: 20%
  • Documentation; record specifications and notation of system design
  • Update; keep systems patched for security, and feature patched as appropriate
  • Train; provide training to help desk employees in support processes, provide training to end users as appropriate
  • Monitor; monitor system performance, availability, and security
  • Test & Process improvement; use monitoring and test environment to add new features and configurations

    Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field and at least two years related experience
  • Citrix: XenDesktop, AppLayering (Unidesk)
  • VMare: Horizon
  • Microsoft Server: File Server, SQL Server, WDS, WSUS, MDT, IIS, Storage Spaces, MDOP
  • Scripting via powershell, bash, command line
  • DNS
  • Operating Systems: Windows Server, Windows, Linux (most commonly CentOS)

  • Nutanix: AHV, Acropolis OS
  • VMare: vSan, ESXi, vCenter, vROPS,
  • Microsoft Server: Active Directory

  • Operating Systems: MacOS, iOS

    Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
