Senior Associate, Product Management

Fraud when a customers credit card or personal information is stolen is a defining and increasingly frequent moment in our customers financial lives. According to Experian, in 2017 alone 14 million credit card numbers and 158 million social security numbers were exposed. Increasingly, this type of activity is carried out by sophisticated international criminal organizations, who are constantly innovating and using the latest technologies to commit these crimes. Here on the Fraud Data and Infrastructure Team, we counter their efforts with real-time, automated, and intelligent technology of our own. What we want is to unleash our analysts, data scientists, and investigators by making fighting fraud effortless and continuously more powerful. We do that by building consumer-grade, associate-facing products and platforms to automate fraud detection and associated actions, democratize access and understanding of our data, and enable new ways of discovering and extinguishing fraud rings.

To power a critical part of that vision, were looking for a product manager to rethink how we decision, whether any particular action (an application, a login, a transaction, etc.) is truly fraud. Today, were using a ~10-15 year old system that has become bloated over time but does tens of millions of important activities in a year, including: identifying and restricting accounts with fraud concerns; determining the required level of authentication and recording those outcomes; recording the notes of front-line agents; routing the customer when they call in; and finally, acting as the data system of record for all fraud concerns and preventative actions on the account. This product manager will partner with strategy, operations, and technology to determine which features are essential and work with an engineering team to build them in a modernized, cloud-native application(s) that works for our front-line agents talking to customers, our analysts and investigators who need the data to make effective ongoing fraud strategy decisions, and our engineers who must build and maintain the infrastructure.

What you'll do:

  • Drive roadmap and delivery, to enable our vision of an integrated, real-time, automated, and intelligent system powering automated fraud detection and elimination

  • Refine the vision, and execute accordingly.

  • Work closely with a team of engineers and business partners to identify customer experience, technical, and operational needs and align on shared priorities

  • Spend 10-15% of time with investigators, analysts, front-line agents, and fraud intent / strategy leaders to deeply understand their workflow, pain points, and key opportunities to expand fraud coverage, and then incorporate the resulting understanding into the product vision and roadmap

  • Define and drive monitoring of platform health

  • Technologies your engineering team would be working with include our Streaming Data Platform, Spark, and microservice architecture, among others

What youll bring:

  • A bias toward action and a proven track record of delivering minimum viable products to market at rapid speed

  • An understanding of and reverence for data and technical products

  • Excellent communication skills to navigate a matrixed organization, tell compelling stories with ease to senior executives, and inspire teams about things that should exist that dont yet

  • Ability to proactively identify impediments on the critical path and remove them

  • A structured problem-solving approach to help a team work through a wide range of issues

  • Intellectual curiosity for emerging technologies and engineering challenges

  • Ability to prioritize across different types of value dimensions

  • Ability to actively seek out multiple opinions, yet make independent decisions and influence positive outcomes

  • Ability to keep the crowd warmed up while the team fixes the broken demo

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree or military experience

  • At least 1 year of working with an Agile delivery methodology

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or Applied Statistics, or equivalent engineering, programming, or quantitative background

  • Experience managing cross-functional teams
