Medtronics ML engineers develop the next-generation technologies that revolutionize the care of millions of patients worldwide. Our products range from complex cloud-based information processing at massive scale to efficient algorithms controlling the real-time operation of implanted devices. We're looking for engineers who bring fresh ideas from all areas, including artificial intelligence, computer vision, signal processing, natural language processing, information retrieval, distributed computing, UI design and mobile. As a ML engineer, you will work on multiple projects critical to the needs of Medtronics Cardiac Rhythm and Heart Failure division. Our engineers need to be versatile, display leadership qualities and be enthusiastic to take on new problems across the full-stack as we continue to push technology forward.

**Day in the life:**

+ Design, build, train and test Machine Learning models

+ Work closely with Project Managers, Research Scientists, and fellow ML Engineers to frame Machine Learning problems within the business context

+ Analyze experimental and observational data, communicate findings, and facilitate product design decisions

**Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.**

+ In new product design roles: develops and programs integrated software algorithms to structure, analyze and leverage data in product and systems applications in both structured and unstructured environments.

+ Develops and communicates descriptive, diagnostic, predictive and prescriptive insights/algorithms.

+ In product/systems improvement projects: uses machine language and statistical modeling techniques such as decision trees, logistic regression, Bayesian analysis and others to develop and evaluate algorithms to improve product/system performance, quality, data management and accuracy.

+ In both theoretical development environments and specific product design, implementation and improvement environments, uses current programming language and technologies to translate algorithms and technical specifications into code.

+ Completes programming and implements efficiencies, performs testing and debugging.

+ Completes documentation and procedures for installation and maintenance.

+ Applies deep learning technologies to give computers the capability to visualize, learn and respond to complex situations.

+ Adapts machine learning to areas such as virtual reality, augmented reality, artificial intelligence, robotics and other products that allow users to have an interactive experience.

+ Can work with large scale computing frameworks, data analysis systems and modeling environments.

**Must Have: Minimum Requirements**

Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Biomedical Engineering or other technical discipline

4+ years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of25 years of relevant experience

**Nice to Have**

M.S. or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Statistics, Biomedical Engineering or related technical field

5+ years (or Ph.D. with 2+ years) of industry or research experience developing ML models

Experience with vision processing, deep neural networks, Gaussian processes, and reinforcement learning

Deep knowledge of ML libraries like scikit-learn, Tensorflow, PyTorch, Keras, etc.

A solid understanding of both probability and statistics

A firm understanding of mathematics (including the role of algorithm theory in machine learning and complex algorithms that are needed to help machines learn and communicate)

Advanced knowledge of engineering

Strong analytical skills

Linux SysAdmin skills

Extensive knowledge of machine learning evaluation metrics and best practices

Proven ability to quickly and effectively turn research ML papers into working code

Practical knowledge of how to build efficient end-to-end ML workflows

Self-driven with the ability to deliver on ambiguous projects with incomplete or dirty data

Ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize and meet deadlines

Strong oral and written interpersonal skills

Experience with multiple scripting languages (Python, R, MATLAB, etc.)

Experience analyzing biomedical and big data

Experience in cross platform Linux/Windows and shell scripting bash/PowerShell

Publication record in machine learning, biomedical data analysis, or a related field.
