Self Pay Representative, Part time

The Self Pay Representatives are key to the success of the hospital billing processes and patient satisfaction. They handle the accounts that are listed as self pay or self pay balances after insurance, assisting patients with obtaining financial assistance, setting up contracts and giving information on their bills. This includes using multiple software programs and analyzing account transactions. Strong written and verbal communication skills are imperative, as well as the ability to listen to and interpret patients situations correctly. Organizational and follow up skills are key to being successful.

Job Responsiblities: 

1) Working TRAC work lists timely and accurately, ensuring that all follow up dates are current, new accounts added to work list are processed daily, and all accounts that are qualified for a collection process are identified and sent to assistant manager for action when they are due.

2) Maintain current knowledge of all third party requirements, guidelines for free care and pending Medicaid to ensure compliance.

3) Utilizes all department and Health System policies and procedures, makes recommendations for new processes as needed.

4) Demonstrates strong written and verbal communication skills that are professional and concise

5) Update billing information and document pertinent account information pertaining to claims submission in all appropriate systems, ensuring comment and activity codes are used correctly and consistently.

6) Meets or exceeds productivity and quality standards as established by the department.

7) Update billing and demographic information via on line billing systems as needed. Documents pertinent account information pertaining to all patient issues and quality measures.

8) Interact and communicate effectively with inter-departmental units when necessary.

9) Maintain and submit required reports and logs according to departmental procedures. Reviews previous logs and reports to ensure no new trends are being established, and notifies assistant manager when an area is identified as a concern.

10) Participate in Education, Training and Cross-training activities as needed.

Required Work Experience: 

1) One year hospital medical billing and/or collection experience required,

Preferred Work Experience: 

1) two or more years experience preferred

2)  Two-five years customer service or self pay experience preferred in a call center environment

Skills and Compentencies: 

1) Excellent PC skills required

2)  Strong investigative skills to identify all available options to self pay patients

3)  Very strong oral and written communication skills

4)  Ability to work with patients and staff in a professional and efficient manner to resolve issues

5)  Able to work independently and within a team

6)  Ability to multitask

7)  Follow-up and organizational skills are mandatory for this positions

8)  Bilingual is a plus
