Lead Med Lab Scientist Fulltime Days

Processes and tests all types of laboratory specimens; reviews and
reports lab results; performs operation, maintenance and advanced
troubleshooting of laboratory instrumentation and equipment; acts as resource
to other laboratory personnel. Advanced
responsibilities include, but not limited to, equipment validation and
implementation; employee training and competency assessment; regulatory
compliance, responsibilities for CAP, TCJ, AABB or other accrediting agencies,
point of care testing, quality assurance, quality control and instrument


+ Processes and tests specimens; reviews andreports lab results; performs operation, maintenance and advancedtroubleshooting of laboratory instrumentation and equipment; acts as resourceto other laboratory personnel.

+ Provides direction to other laboratory staffthat may include medical laboratory technicians and technologists.

+ Will provide input on staff evaluations asrequested.

+ Maintains a complete and up to date proceduremanuals.

+ Achieves ongoing compliance with regulatoryagencies.

+ In high volume core laboratories, will work inmultiple departments/sections or multiple facilities within a market, asrequested.

+ Completes other duties assigned by laboratorysupervisor or director.

+ Will serve as point of care coordinator fornon-laboratory tests, as requested.

+ Interacts professionally with the Director ofClinical Laboratory, Pathologist and clinical laboratory personnel.

+ Consults with other departments, as appropriate,to collaborate in patient care and performance improvement activities.

+ Performs all aspects of patient care in anenvironment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood ofmedical/health care errors.

+ Follows standard precautions at all times.

+ Manages and operates laboratory equipment safelyand correctly.

+ Demonstrates knowledge of new testing methods,products, instrumentation; remains informed on all current technologies.

+ Maintains current knowledge of hospital policy,CAP, JCAHO, state and other regulatory requirements.

+ Demonstrates the ability to be flexible,organized and function under stressful situations.

+ Demonstrates the value of team concept on a consistentbasis.


+ Reports to work on time and as scheduled,completes work within designated time.

+ Adheres to scheduling requests of the department(Works weekends, no special days off, no exceptions).

+ Adheres to the Customer Service Standards ofBSWMC-Sunnyvale while representing the organization in a positive andprofessional manner.

+ Communicates the mission, ethics and goals ofthe facility, as well as the focus statement of the department and complieswith all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.

+ Utilizes computerized punch time systemcorrectly.

+ Completes annual education requirements andmaintains regulatory requirements.

+ Adheres to dress code, appearance is neat andclean and wears identification while on duty.

+ Completes in-services and returns in a timelyfashion and has not missed any mandatory in-services.

+ Attends at least 8 staff meetings annually, isresponsible for information presented at monthly staff meetings that he/she isunable to attend.

+ Actively participates in performance improvementand continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.


+ Bachelors Degree from an approved college oruniversity and/or graduate of an accredited school of medical technology, orequivalent such as military training as defined by 42 CFR 493.1489, or havequalified at the Medical Technologist level by achieving a satisfactory gradeon a HHS examination prior to 2/28/92 42 CFR 493.1491. The above meets required criteria as definedby CLIA regulations for High Complexity testing (42 CFR 493.1489 and 42 CFR493.1491).

+ 3 years as a medical technologist in acute carefacility with demonstration of increasing responsibilities Ability toeffectively communicate in English, both verbally and in writing.

+ Registered in accordance with an approvedcertifying agency (ASCP, NCA, AMT or CSMLS). Equivalency evaluation by NACES orAICE for non-US trained personnel must be completed within 30 days of hire.Licensure, as required by State


+ Basic computer knowledge.

+ Operates the following equipment correctly andsafely: microscopes, centrifuges, hematology, chemistry, and otherinstrumentation.
