We have a new opportunity in SPS for a Safety (Center of Excellence) Director in Charlotte, NC.


The Safety Director is a member of the SPS HSE&F Leadership Team, responsible for the safety, globally.  The role is in Charlotte, NC and reports to the Sr. Director HSE&F.  The successful candidate must be results driven and compliance focused, with a track record of implementing safety management systems that produce results.  Critical to the role will be a strong process safety management skillset that will be used to directly oversee SPS PSM sites and people.  Responsible for governance of all safety programs and processes, the Safety Director will functionally own the Management System Tool (MST), used to report incidents and corrective actions.  We are looking for a well-rounded leader that can manage health and safety programs in manufacturing, field services and installations environments.

 Key Responsibilities:

  • Ability to articulate a vision and execute a strategy that improves safety culture through implementation of sustainable management systems.
  • Must be a strong leader of people and processes: audit and self-assessment, inspections, incident investigation and corrective action, management systems, training, safety observations, near miss, culture improvement.
  • Competency to create annual operating plans, initiatives and actions to achieve leading and lagging indicator results (Common Balanced Scorecard).
  • High level of demonstrated competency in managing all aspects of OSHA PSM.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement behavior and culture improvement processes. 
  • Demonstrated history of implementing specific safety initiatives to reduce injuries.
  • Recognized expertise in core safety programs, with emphasis on: machine safeguarding, LOTO, fall protection, confined space entry, process safety management, electrical safety, industrial hygiene.    

    • Bachelor€™s degree
    • 10 years of progressive health and safety experience, with increased responsibility.

      • Black Belt/TPM/Lean expert
