Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a Roadway Design Engineer for the Surface Transportation department in Albuquerque, NM. Projects may include the design of urban and rural roadways, interstate highways, interchanges and multi-use paths. Some Traffic Engineering design, to include signing, striping and maintenance of traffic during construction may also be included.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Geometric design of roadways creating horizontal and vertical alignments and cross sections.

  • Developing and refining roadway models to create finished ground surfaces using Civil 3D.

  • Preparation of design plans and cost estimates in accordance with NMDOT and other local agency standards including erosion control, pavement marking, permanent signing, traffic control, plan and profiles, and cross sections

  • Coordinate with a multi-discipline team in the development of a transportation project from concept to final plan production.

  • Mentoring less experienced engineers and designers.

  • Support of alignment/corridor studies including review existing roadway geometrics, safety, development of alternatives

  • Successful candidates will be expected to work independently and in design teams to advance projects through the design and review process.

  • Engage project stakeholders including clients, the public, utility companies, and permitting agencies.

  • Knowledge of NMDOT and other local agency standards for highway and other infrastructure design is required.

Minimum Requirements

  • BA/BS + 4 years of experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

Preferred Qualifications

  • Local agency transportation design.

  • NMDOT design experience.

  • Cross-discipline experience including traffic and drainage design.

  • Experience in multiple design software platforms including from Autodesk (Civil 3D) and Bentley (Inroads, Open Roads).

  • Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering.

  • 8+ years of experience

  • A current P.E. license in the State of New Mexico.

  • Experience preparing PS&E documents.

  • Knowledge of agency/regulatory approval process.

  • Experience in successfully designing multiple projects and producing quality work under tight deadlines.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills experience.
