Summary

This role provides direct clinical patient care. The role will assume responsibility for assessing, planning, implementing direct clinical care to assigned patients on a per shift basis, and unit level. The role is responsible for supervision of staff to which appropriate care is delegated. The role is accountable to support CNO to ensure high quality, safe and appropriate nursing care, competency of clinical staff, and appropriate resource management related to patient care.

Core Job Responsibilities

Administers treatment after evaluating the assigned patient.

Assesses and diagnoses patient and family needs to provide quality care to assigned patients.

Assists as a preceptor to new staff and students in the area assigned.

Creates and discusses the plan of care with each patient and family member assigned.

Directs licensed and non-licensed personnel in the provision of care to patients as assigned.

Ensures patient records are up-to-date and accurate documentation is recorded in order to provide quality care.

Identifies the medical issues and provides nursing care for the assigned patient. Reassesses the patient to ensure proper quality of care was delivered.


Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements

Required: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing; American Heart Association BLS

Preferred: Academic degree in nursing (Bachelors or Master s Degree)

Additional requirements per unit defined by area of specialty; as applicable, refer to the following requirements:

License, Certification, and Registration Requirements as required by area of specialty:

  • Cardiovascular and Electro Services: American Heart ACLS

  • Critical Care/ICU: American Heart ACLS

  • Float Pool: American Heart ACLS

  • Operating Room, One Day Surgery, PACU: American Heart ACLS

  • Emergency Room: American Heart ACLS. American Heart Association PALS and NIH Certification required within first 30 days of hire

  • Neuro: American Heart ACLS, NIHSS within 120 days of hire and/or before the end of

    department orientation

  • SICU: American Heart ACLS, NIHSS within 120 days of hire and/or before the end of

    department orientation

  • NICU: American Academy of Pediatrics Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) within 120 days of hire and then every two years. STABLE (American Academy of Pediatrics) within 180 days of hire and then every two years.

  • Labor & Deliver: American Heart ACLS, American Academy of Pediatrics Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) within 120 days of hire and then every two years. Within the first year of hire AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring. After one year of experience Nurse Evaluator designation. Second year of experience AWHONN Advanced Fetal Monitoring. Fetal Monitoring required every two years.

  • Lactation: American Academy of Pediatrics Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) within 120 days of hire and then every two years. IBCLC certified or working towards certification.

  • Mother Baby: American Heart ACLS, American Academy of Pediatrics Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) within 120 days of hire and then every two years.

  • Vascular Access/PICC: American Heart ACLS, Intravenous (IV) Certification and Peripherally inserted catheter (PICC) Certification required within 90 days of hire.

  • Wound Care: Wound, Ostomy or Continence (WOCN), Certified Wound Specialist (CWS) or Wound Care Certified (WCC).
