Job Title - Risk Manager, Human Resources 

What youll do

As a Risk Manager in Capital Ones Human Resource Business Risk Office you will be responsible for working with the Canada HR team to identify and consult on potential risks to Capital One HR, applying your risk/process management and analytical skills to drive well-managed risk activities.  If you are curious and eager to learn new things, love problem solving, and have a deep reverence for risk and process management, this could be the role for you!

Risk Managers at Capital One are highly motivated risk and process management professionals with excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills. These skills allow the Risk Manager to gain insights, and act as an effective challenger to ensure risk is a performance enabler for HR. As Capital One evolves to meet the ever-changing technology landscape, so do our risk managers. A successful HR risk manager operates from a foundation of knowledge about HR, employment laws/regulations, processes and associated controls, and good risk management and risk mitigation practices. They are forward thinking, quick to adapt, and technologically adept.

The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated risk or process management professional with excellent problem solving, integrative thinking, prioritization, influence and communication skills. HR professionals with a particular interest and aptitude for risk and process management should also apply.  Additionally adapting to and managing change in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, are default essentials for this role. 

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates, executes and instills strong risk management practices throughout HR, serving as a thought partner to identify, socialize, and resolve key risks and issues identified through those activities to deliver a consistent and well-managed experience across the HR organization

  • Effectively challenges our HR team as well as our partners and collaborates effectively with 2nd lines of defense (Compliance, Legal, Enterprise Risk Management, Operational Risk Management) and 3rd line of defense (Audit)

  • Proactively analyzes risk trends, identifying signs of changing risk levels and/or symptoms of process control breakdowns and areas of emerging risk for the business unit including reporting on risk topics to management

  • Stays current on the changing regulatory environment and understand the impacts to HR

  • Provides oversight and guidance during risk assessments (New Products/Processes, SLQ2CQ certification, Risk and Control Self-Assessments, etc.)

  • Supports audits and regulatory exams of our organization, as applicable

  • Participates in risk forums and contributes to continuous improvement of risk management practices

  • Sets direction, manages expectations, and may lead cross-functional teams through various initiatives

  • Participates in and execute other special projects for the risk office on a periodic basis

Basic Qualifications

  • At least 5+ years of Risk Management experience 

  • At least 2 years or more of experience in process management

  • At least 3 years of Human Resource experience

  • At least 5 years of experience supporting, partnering, and interacting with key stakeholders or internal business partners

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree 

  • Experience with Governance, Risk, and Compliance software tools (PRIME at Capital One)

  • Experience in controls development, controls management, and reporting activities
