The Division of Dermatology in the Department of Medicine has an outstanding opportunity for a part-time Research Study Coordinator 1.

Incumbents perform routine scientific work, evaluating, selecting and applying standardized scientific or procedures and techniques to assignments with clear, specific objectives; mainly statistical analysis of data on a cohort of Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) patients.  Incumbents also perform clinic logistical work, coordinating the patients interaction with the research. For training and development purposes, assignments may include some work that is typical of a higher level.

Knowledge: Knows the fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of cancer biology; continues development of technical expertise and knowledge through experience and application.

Direction received: Reports directly to the research lab manager. Supervisor screens assignments for unusual or difficult problems and selects techniques and procedures to be applied on non-routine work. Receives close supervision on new aspects of assignments.

Typical duties and responsibilities:

  • Tracks and reports serology testing results for MCC patients. Coordinates serology test blood kits with external lab. Asks and answers clinically relevant questions about MCC using our database.
  • Helps coordinate acquisition of patient samples for research and clinical trials. Delivers and sends specimens to internal and external collaborators.
  • Maintains database of patient and specimen information, which includes quality control testing and updating new or missing information. Inputs information from medical charts into database. Performs statistical analysis of cohort data and contributes of data/findings for use in reports, documents, presentations, and manuscripts.
  • Prepares clinical notes for upcoming patient visits. Obtains medical records for outside patients.
  • Defines and improves practices and protocols from experiences on small projects. Collaborates with a variety of team members including physicians, post-doctoral fellows, statisticians, and graduate students to complete projects and manuscripts about clinical management of MCC.

  • Two years of college level course work in a relevant academic area AND two years of experience as a Research Study Assistant OR equivalent education/experience
