The new Brotman Baty Institute for Precision Medicine currently has an outstanding opportunity for a Research Scientist 2 position at the intersection of cutting-edge technology development and medicine. The institute bridges the University of Washington, the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and Seattle Childrens Hospital. The Advanced Technology Lab is administratively part of the Department of Genome Sciences at the University of Washington and located at UW Medical Center. The mission of the Advanced Technology Lab is to make cutting-edge -omics technologies, including many developed by labs at the member institutions, broadly available to the Institutes research community. These technologies include scalable assays for single cell molecular profiling and functional profiling of genetic variants.

Position Purpose:
This Advanced Technology Lab position represents an outstanding opportunity for a Research Scientist/Engineer 2 to fill a unique scientist role at the nexus between functional genomics and medical genetics. We seek an individual with strong molecular and organizational skills to help build and perform a production protocol for a new single cell molecular profiling method.

Responsibilities:
This is a unique position that requires significant motivation to learn and understand new scientific methods. The Research Scientist along with senior lab members will be responsible for optimizing and building a data production pipeline for a single cell chromatin profiling method that will be new to the BATlab. 

Research Support:
  • Optimize and implement a single cell chromatin profiling method (65%):
  • Developing a production-scale SOP
  • Performing production-scale experiments
  • Lab meetings to keep up to date with new methods (5%)
  • Communicate with collaborators and management on progress (10%)
  • Sample and reagent tracking (10%)
  • Helping with RNA-seq experiments (10%)

    Minimum Requirements:
  • B.S. degree in molecular biology, cellular biology, genetics or related discipline.
  • 2+ years experience in functional genomics and/or experience in high-throughput functional genomic research.
  • Candidate should have outstanding academic and professional track record.
  • Candidate should be highly motivated to learn new molecular methods.
  • Candidate should be an innovative and analytical thinker with outstanding interpersonal and communication skills. Must be highly disciplined and organized.
  • Successful candidate will be highly self-motivated and enthusiastic about taking a hands-on approach to collaborative scientific discovery efforts.
