The Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine in the Department of Medicine has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time Research Scientist/Engineer 1.

Working under the direction of the principal investigator, the Research Scientist 1 will assist in extramurally funded research with the goal of identifying key elements of the innate immune response to lung infections using animal models of disease and in vitro studies.

Duties include:

  • Conduct of laboratory experiments and maintenance of laboratory materials and data
  • Handling and dissection of mice 
  • Maintenance of cells in tissue culture  
  • Collection of DNA, RNA and protein for down-stream analysis including Western blots, ELISAs, RT-PCR, FACS
  • Maintenance of complete laboratory records using exacting regulatory methods
  • Complex data set analysis and integration using spreadsheet, statistical, and graphical software   
  • Development and testing of new laboratory methods to meet changing needs   
  • Maintenance and preparation of laboratory supplies; data acquisition and management.

    REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology or related field with at least 3 months and up to 1 year of experience in a research laboratory.

    Additional Requirements:
  • Experience with tissue culture/sterile technique and general molecular immunology methods
  • Proficiency with desktop computers including spreadsheet, statistical, and graphical software
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to manage diverse tasks, flexibility in work hours, and a commitment to excellence. 
  • Must be comfortable working with animals.

    Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

    DESIRED

  • Experience performing immunoassays, working with DNA, RNA.

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

    The candidate will be expected to perform meticulous laboratory procedures involving animals.
