Job Summary

This role will be responsible for supporting research projects and deliverables related to policies for the Internet’s domain name system (DNS) as well as performing some transactional duties for ongoing organizational programs. This role will also assist in the implementation of one or more new projects as assigned. The role will have a heavy focus on the development of written communications (e.g., research findings, formal correspondence, memos, briefings, reports). The role will have the opportunity to work cross-functionally to execute various activities and develop subject-matter expertise within the assigned areas.

Key Responsibilities & Duties:

Support projects of diverse scope for ICANN's Global Domains Division. For the respective projects, the Research Assistant will:

  • Complete research projects requiring collection, analysis, and synthesis of multiple sources of information.
  • Draft summaries and analysis of available information, including input received in public comment processes and public sessions, in consultation and collaboration with relevant teams and internal or external subject matter experts.
  • Prepare formal reports, publications, website materials, staff briefings, and presentations for internal and external ICANN stakeholders.
  • Provide focused project support, including tracking and coordinating project teamwork and schedules, including use of organizational management software tools, and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders on status updates, problem-solving and issue resolution.
  • Complete project deliverables on time in adherence to project schedule and management direction, prioritizing and escalating issues to the project manager or supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Assist in coordinating major project elements including but not limited to: issue identification and resolution; establishing rationale for decisions; feasibility and advisability analysis; implementation activities; gathering status and adjusting project schedules as necessary; preparing reports and tracking key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Perform transactional duties on a day-to-day basis in the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tool (i.e., Salesforce CRM), including managing and tracking cases, requests, or other inquiries.
  • Work with supervisor and team members to identify appropriate indicators of progress; design reports to inform senior management of status and assume responsibility for quality and timing of delivery of reports.
  • Assist in management of vendors, as applicable, to ensure that project deliverables meet quality and timeliness expectations.
  • Develop process documentation and coordinate process improvement initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned or requested.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Google Suite.

  • A sense of ownership and drive to complete tasks.

Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree required; Master's Degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 0 - 2 years of experience in a business or nonprofit environment, or equivalentcombination of education and experience.
  • Must include at least 2 years of academic, technical or business writing experience.
  • Experience in any of the following areas preferred: Domain Name Industry, Technical Writing, Research, Data Analysis, Operations, Project Management, Product Management, Finance, Vendor Management, and Legal.


Fluent written and spoken in English is required; at least one additional language at business competency level is strongly desired.
