The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences within the UW School of Medicine is the third largest clinical department within the School of Medicine with 285 full-time faculty members, 280 clinical faculty members, and over 200 staff. Department faculty provide clinical services in 5 hospitals, 14 primary care locations, and several outpatient sites in addition to telepsychiatry consultations to more than 150 clinics in Washington and beyond. As the only academic psychiatry department serving the five state WWAMI region (Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, Idaho), the Departments highly competitive residency training program is largely responsible for developing the mental health workforce in the Pacific Northwest. The Departments robust research portfolio totals $35 million in grants and contracts per year for projects ranging from clinical neurosciences to treatment development to health policy and population health. The Department is recognized as an international leader in developing, testing, and implementing Collaborative Care, an integrated care model increasingly seen as a solution for population-based mental health care. Other areas of excellence include Addictions, Autism, High Risk Youth, Neurosciences, and Trauma, and the Department is developing innovative new programs in Technology and Mental Health, Global Mental Health, Maternal and Child Mental Health, and Targeted Intervention Development.

The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences is recruiting for a Research Coordinator.

The Washington State Parent-Child Assistance Program (PCAP) is a 3-year case management intervention for pregnant and parenting mothers with substance use disorders. Funded by the Washington State Health Care Authority, the University of Washington PCAP team in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Addictions, Drug & Alcohol Institute provides training to the PCAP intervention sites, consultation in maintaining fidelity to the PCAP model, and program evaluation.  The Research Coordinator will support the evaluation mission of the UW PCAP team and the PCAP research program.

The Research Coordinator will have responsibility for data collection, including, but not limited to the remote assessment of information related to demographics, education and work history, physical and mental health, substance use history, parenting, family and social history, legal history, and connection to community services. The Research Coordinator will complete and maintain training in the protection of human subjects and follow established protocols in interacting with program and research participants.  The Research Coordinator will assist in the recruitment, enrollment, and retention of research participants.

Effectively manages competing priorities in scheduling evaluation/research interviews
Maintains strict confidentiality with respect to data collection
Balances the need to broach sensitive topics in assessment interviews with the need for accuracy in data collection
Consults with the Program Director on appropriate management of participant problems and concerns

The Research Coordinator must be able to fill a multifaceted role in a complex program of evaluation and research that requires working with a large, widespread cohort of participants. The Research Coordinator must be able to implement and maintain established data collection protocols as a member of the evaluation and research team at UW, in collaboration with program staff at agencies across Washington State. The Research Coordinator must be highly motivated and well-organized, possessing strong communication skills and the ability to work independently. The Research Coordinator must have sufficient technical skills to utilize IT for data collection and management activities and related quality assurance tasks. The Research Coordinator will need to be available for on-campus work and for the remote support of program staff and participants.

Administers data collection instruments, codes responses, and enters data into a web-based system (30%)
Works closely with the PCAP team in the development of research designs, data collection methods, and strategies for management of PCAP data (20%)
Coordinates scheduling remote data collection interviews with program staff at 15+ sites (10%)
Assists in the recruitment, enrollment, and retention of research participants (10%)
Digitizes, extracts, and enters data from historical paper-based program records (10%)
Conducts informed consent procedures with program/research participants (10%)
Implements data quality assurance tasks (10%)

Bachelors Degree in Social Services Related Field
1 year experience in Administration of study instruments and data collection

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

Extensive knowledge pertaining to substance use and addictions
Clinical interviewing experience
