The UW Department of Radiology currently has an outstanding opportunity for a RESEARCH COORDINATOR.

The Research Coordinator contributes to the growth and success of the Department of Radiology by executing the mission and vision.  The purpose of this position is to promote the research objectives in the Department of Radiology.  The OncoRad serivce is part of the Body Imaging section in the Department of Radiology.  This service provides imaging assessments of response for patients on oncology clinical trials.  Tumor measurements from scans (CT, MR, PET/CT, bone scan) are completed at each scanning time point using tumor assessment criteria dictated by the study protocol.  The Research Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the daily administration of the program.  They must be able to work independently to establish work schedules, job priorities, develop and implement procedures, policies in operations and reseach for the service.  S/he is also responsible for ensuring compliance to protocols and overseeing quality assurance measures for accuracy.  This position will work with minimal supervision as a member of the OncoRad team.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Assist with administrative activities of the OncoRad Service in Body Imaging: 40%
  • Manage daily functions of the OncoRad service which includes analyzing current processes, identifying processes and functions for improvement and developing plans to meet goals
  • Develop, implement, and monitor policies and procedures for the smooth operations of the service and provide periodic training to the team regarding those polices and procedures
  • Manage system issues and upgrades with system developers
  • Serve as a primary resource for the team, PIs and physicians and point of contact for the OncoRad service and oversee the management of the help desk
  • Utilize technical expertise in imaging assessment criteria to ensure protocols are reviewed and cases are processed
  • Consult with radiologists, clinicians, investigators, and others to evaluate analysis needs
  • Assess protocol questions and seek input of physicians when needed
  • Assist manager with monthly audit and billing processes
  • Train physicians and clinical staff.  This includes training on OncoRad software and criteria assessment.  Provide training on case management including processing cases, measuring tumor burden and determining disease status
  • Prepare monthly reports on performance metrics and assist with preparation of data for monthly team meetings

    Image Analysis and Worklist Support: 60%
  • Perform tumor response assessment through 2D,3D, or functional quantitative image analysis according to oncology clinical trial protocols; assessment involves quantitative, longitudinal tracking of tumor size and function; imaging modalities include CT, MR, PET/CT, bone scan, and ultrasound
  • Effectively apply specialized knowledge of cancer imaging assessment criteria to evaluate patients' objective tumor response assessments to therapy. These criteria include (but not limited to) RECIST, Cheson, irRC, and others
  • Correlate clinical findings from different imaging modalities, discuss and collaborate with different radiology sections, including nuclear medicine, neuroradiology, etc, to provide accurate and consistent clinical and research reporting
  • Review incoming research protocols and assess criteria(s) for imaging response for clinical trials and upload into the database
  • Communicate with trial staff about scheduling and results; this role is a primary point of contact for departmental staff, CRC, and other personnel regarding imaging
  • Triage all customer service inquiries including OncoRad account set up and verification as well as other ongoing inquiries
  • Provide training to outside groups on cancer imaging assessment criteria
  • Consult with radiologists, clinicians, principal investigators, and others to evaluate analysis needs and implement protocol procedures
  • Monitor, maintain, and update daily dashboard of scheduled cases.  This may occasionally require working outside of normal business hours (8am-5pm) for stat or late cases
  • Collaborate with clinical trial staff to import data from outside facilities as necessary; includes accessing hospital and radiology information systems to validate patient studies
  • Support the program manager during absence to maintain the daily function of the program
  • Complete related tasks as assigned

    Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent/related experience in a scientific field- Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
  • 1 year of work or related experience
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to multi-task, organize and prioritize multiple projects
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Strong educational background in the biological sciences
  • Strong demonstrated interest in learning anatomy and pathology 
  • Strong ability to learn and utilize technical expertise in multiple imaging assessment criteria and image analysis applications
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Experience in an academic or non-profit research environment
  • Knowledge of anatomy and physiology
  • Knowledge of or experience in cross-sectional imaging Experience with University of Washington and/or Fred Hutchinson systems and policies PREFERRED
  • Understanding of cancer imaging evaluation criteria for oncology clinical trials (e.g., RECIST, Cheson, etc) PREFERRED

    Work Environment:
  • This is a 100% position.  Incumbent will work with supervisor to set an expected schedule within the normal 8am to 5pm, M-F, timeframe.  Schedule is not always fixed and workload does vary. The incumbents first responsibility is to complete tasks rather than keep to a fixed schedule.  Flexibility in schedule and intensity of work is necessary.
  • Some travel between sites will be necessary by UW Health Services or other means such as public transportation, private vehicle, bicycle, etc.
