Research Associate

Pacific Biosciences is seeking a talented Manufacturing Research Associate to join our Chip NPI Systems Team.  This position reports to the Supervisor, Manufacturing Systems Engineer.


Main Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and interpret experimental data using various data analysis software.

  • Summarize experimental results and review conclusions with supervisor.

  • Use technical writing skills to produce reports and summaries. May present findings in cross-functional meetings.

  • Make recommendations for continuous process improvements.

  • Assist and support engineering projects during development and transfer to production.

  • Functional Testing (sequencing) on PACBIO RSII, Sequel System, and prototype sequencers.

  • Prepare sequencing samples using manual pipettes and semi-automated pipettes.

  • Execute and review manufacturing documentation pertaining to functional testing processes.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Hands on experience with pipettes and sequencing tools is highly desired.

  • Ability to effectively communicate and perform multiple tasks simultaneously, well organized, analytical and flexible to adjust to priorities.

  • Experience with executing protocols and accurately collecting data from Design of Experiments (DOE) and process qualifications.

  • Highly motivated individual that can take ownership and drive complex tasks to completion as well as independently diagnose and innovate solutions to manufacturing issues.

  • Receives minimal instructions on routine work and on new assignments.

  • Ability to use, write, review, and revise process documentation with accuracy and train others to new processes.

  • Takes on roles to ensure product quality and that quality processes are used and monitored.


Minimum Position Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in Biological/Life Sciences, Chemistry, Biochemistry or related field, or equivalent combination of education and work-experience.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel.

  • Proficiency with Statistical Analysis Software, such as JMP.

  • Familiarity with Manufacturing Execution Systems, such as Camstar.

  • Attention to detail and confident in ownership and execution of projects.

  • Must be able and willing to work overtime and weekends as required.

  • Maintains a positive attitude with excellent interpersonal skills.
