Working alongside physician-scientists and researchers, you will be a part of life-saving medical and scientific breakthroughs. **Summary ofEssential Job Duties** The Medically Associated Science and Technology (MAST) program at Cedars-Sinai is dedicated to the development of novel drugs and devices to diagnose and treat patients. MAST represents the mainsail of a vessel taking us on a voyage of discovery in medicine and science. This innovative program is working to develop new diagnostics and therapeutics to treat patients with illnesses related to imbalances or alterations in the microbiome. Over the last 20 years, the MAST team has made many discoveries that benefit millions of patients, and we hope to help millions more with our growing fleet of novel diagnostics and therapeutics. At MAST, patients are at the center of our work, which gives us a unique perspective as we innovate. Having direct interactions with patients drives our curiosity toward clinically meaningful questions and allows us to move quickly toward identifiable solutions. The MAST team brings expertise in working with the microbiome in both basic and clinical aspects, along with a track record of navigating the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval process and post-FDA approval work. The program encompasses basic science and physiology, as well as clinical and translational research and the basic research team interfaces with clinical research. Working under direct supervision, the Research Associate I performs a variety of routine experimental protocols and procedures to support the objectives of one or more laboratory research projects in a specific area of research. Assists in general laboratory activities, including maintenance of reagents and stocking of supplies. Assists with inventory and organization of reagents, supplies, and sample archives. Assists with data entry. Files and monitors documents. Keeps accurate and detailed records of experiments and results. Assists with preparation of results for presentation. Assists in the operation of specialized equipment and machinery. Observes safety standards and procedures. The Research Assistant I will perform routine cellular, micro- and molecular biology procedures including, but not limited to ELISA and other assays, western blot, DNA/RNA/ protein extraction, PCR, cell and bacterial culture, live animal (rodent) work. This position does not have supervisory responsibilities. Executes experimental protocols under supervision, both routine and complex laboratory tasks and procedures. Keeps accurate and detailed project records of experiments and results. Assists in animal husbandry and procedures. Assists in the operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment Maintains lab related records and inventories. Transports, processes and logs samples. Performs lab maintenance duties, including glassware cleaning and sterilization. Maintains stocks of general lab materials. Observes and complies with safety standards and procedures. Attend and report on progress at departmental research meetings Maintain CITI certification **EducationalRequirements** Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts Degree in biological sciences. **Experience** Understanding of general research objectives. Working knowledge of database management, personal computers, and presentation and imaging software. Understanding of general research objectives. Familiar with routine laboratory procedures and experimental protocols. Must possess computer skills to include, but not limited to, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word. 1-year experience in laboratory research, strong background in microbiology preferred.
