UUW Bothell - Center on Reinventing Public Education has an outstanding opportunity for a Research Analyst.

The Center on Reinventing Public Education (CRPE) is one of the nations leading sources for transformative, evidence-based ideas to improve education. To ensure all students are prepared for a rapidly changing future, we put forward rigorous research and policy analysis to help educators, policymakers, civic and community leaders, parents, and students themselves reimagine education systems and structures. We make sense of complex trends and data, communicate new possibilities for system change, and provide guidance and thought leadership to support that change. We pride ourselves on our ability to see around the corner, reach across traditional party and sector lines, and craft solutions to problems few have anticipated. CRPE is located off-campus in Pioneer Square in Seattle.

The Research Analyst will carry out grant-funded research on topics such as special education, school choice, education finance, career and technical education, and portfolio governance. The ideal candidate will demonstrate commitment to posing imaginative and provocative questions and thinking creatively about data and methods that are available to answer questions.

Duties and Responsibilities
Collect qualitative data through phone and in-person interviews with school districts, mayors offices, charter school networks, community organizations, policymakers and other education leaders across the country. Analyze data and identify trends and translate those into research questions and analysis [45%].
Produce quality written work and/or briefings that meet the twin tests of academic respectability and potential significance for policy. Written work may include literature reviews, briefs, and other project deliverables [35%].
Organize project data and reports to funders, and to UW Institutional Review Board when required. Integrate information from multiple sources to ensure that research proposals meet the necessary requirements of funding agencies [15%].
Communicate results of the analysis to interviewees and other stakeholders. Partner with communications staff to disseminate results to a variety of audiences such as policymakers, practitioners, and thought leaders [5%].

Requirements
Masters Degree in Public Policy, Education, or a related field and minimum 2 years of progressing experience in research related activities.
Commitment to and interest in the work and the mission of CRPE.
Experience collecting and interpreting qualitative data, coupled with strong problem solving and analytical skills.
Strong writing and editing skills, with flexibility to adapt to CRPE style and open to writing multiple drafts to get it right.
Track record of taking initiative to successfully manage complex projects involving multiple stakeholders.
An entrepreneurial mindset (i.e. flexible, resourceful, and creative) and deep motivation to drive towards high-quality outcomes with a consistently positive attitude.
Ability to work as an effective member of a small team and interested in learning about other CRPE projects and becoming a valued contributor to the organization.
Ability to work with diverse constituents.
Ability to travel.
Hands-on education or education policy experience.

Desired
Familiarity with education reform landscape (issues, districts, individuals).
Familiarity with quantitative data analysis (i.e. using software to calculate descriptive statistics; regression analysis).
Experience conducting research, coordinating projects, analyzing data, presenting data, and preparing reports.
Experience or background in education research/policy issues.
Experience working with IRB/Human Subjects a plus.

Conditions of Employment
Ability to work evening and weekend hours, as necessary, on short or limited notice.
Must be willing to travel nationally when necessary.
