Join us, and discover why U.S. News & World Report has named us one of Americas Best Hospitals! **What will you be doing in this role?** The Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) is responsible for ensuring radiological safety and compliance with California Department of Public Health-Radiologic Health Branch (CDPH-RHB), US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and the conditions of the Institutions Broad Scope Radioactive Materials License (RAM). Ensure that requirements outlined in the Code of Federal Regulations Section 10, Part 20 and Part 35 levels are adhered to. The RSO ensures that all elements listed in the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) Duties and Responsibilities of the Radiation Safety Officer and Delegation of Authority, RSO Duties and Responsibilities for Medical Use are performed at the highest level of quality. **Job Qualifications:** + Master's Degree in HealthPhysics, Medical Physics, Physics, or similar discipline. + Five (5) years' experience inhealth physics, radioactive materials, and State and Federal regulationsrequired. + Five (5) years' experienceserving as a Radiation Safety Officer highly preferred. + Board Certified MedicalPhysicist by American Board of Radiology (ABR) and/or American Board of Sciencein Nuclear Medicine preferred. **Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities:** + Coordinate and implement theoperational and programmatic elements of the Institutions writtenRadiation Protection Plan. + Maintain, implement andensure compliance with Institutions Radioactive Materials License (RAM).Submit amendments and renewal requests to the State in a timely manner. + Ensure possession, use, andstorage of all radioactive materials are consistent with the limitationsin the License, applicable regulations, the NSSDR Certificate(s),manufacturers recommendations and instructions, and best safety practice. + Serve as member of theRadiation Safety Committee (RSC) providing link between RSC and the usersof ionizing radiation. Plan committee agenda and help guide agenda.Support Committee Chair(s). + Identify, investigate andnotify management of radiation safety issues and events. + Initiate, recommend, provide,and coordinate corrective actions and verify successful implementation ofcorrective action. + Be available for, and provideconsultations with Leadership, facility and staff regarding regulationsand license requirements and obligations. + Consult, review and providerecommendations for all new construction and renovations that involve RAMand radiation producing machines, including shielding, layout, regulatorycompliance, and monitoring. + Ensure personnel monitoring, ALARAinvestigations, pregnancy consults, and employee radiation safety issuesare addressed accurately and compassionately. + Coordinate and conduct human,animal, and other research protocol review that involve radiation andradioactive materials. + Collaboratively andcollegially investigate medical events following RCA and otherinvestigatory protocol. + Ensure the security ofradioactive materials according to regulatory obligations andexpectations. Identify restricted areas. + Maintain and ensurecalibrations, testing, machine registrations, dosimetry and QCs areperformed as required. + Develop, implement,communicate and monitor efficiency of new and established policies,practices, and protocol. + Respond to hazardousmaterials incidents, spills, releases and exposures as a first responder. + Assist with investigatingcausative factors to prevent reoccurrences. Serve as consultant to allradioactive material incidents. + Provide mentorship todepartment and Institutional executive leadership with regard to radiationsafety program direction and future.
