The Senior R and D Engineering position requires strong technical and leadership skills to support the design and development of innovative, new products within the Coronary Structural Heart business. You will apply advanced technical principles, theories, and concepts on complex technical problems, and will provide technical leadership of projects from concept generation through early phase development. The position works under the general direction of the project lead but will have latitude in determining methods of solving problems, design and construction of prototypes, and creation of test methods with associated product testing. Participate in cross-functional and cross-site development teams that are responsible for different aspects of the project such as implant development and pre-clinical evaluations.


A Day in the Life:


Generate mechanical designs using SolidWorks and work with a variety of vendors to rapidly prototype new concepts for testing and evaluation


Expertise in the development, testing and manufacture of implantable medical devices


Research and integrate new technologies and materials through the understanding and utilization of extensive technical knowledge and understanding of complex ideas, concepts, and theories


Utilize advanced experimental design methodologies, with significant complexity, and execute test protocols and reports to facilitate the design of medical devices


Analyze data using advanced statistical techniques and communicate results to a cross-functional team


Utilize a high level of technical expertise to design and develop complex new test methods and equipment


Collaborate with people inside and outside of the company, as well as identify vendors and external partners needed throughout the development process


Develop complex solutions to technical problems that are aligned with the strategies and goals of the organization


Meet with physicians at conferences, roundtables, etc. and attend field visits to enhance innovation and customer engagement


Support our intellectual property portfolio through generation and support of novel ideas and product concepts


Document research and development process through lab notebooks or other methods


Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.


+ Designs, develops, analyzes, troubleshoots and provides technical skills during research and/or product development.

+ Designs studies to investigate specific life science questions within field of expertise.

+ May be involved in product research and development and/or clinical trials.

+ Translates research discoveries into usable and marketable products.


Required:


Bachelors degree in engineering (Mechanical, Materials, or Biomedical) Advanced technical degree is preferred


Minimum 4 years of experience in medical device product development or 2+ years of experience with MS degree


Nice to Have:


Familiarity with CAD


Ability to perform word processing and create spreadsheets. Proficient with computers (i.e.: Word, Excel,etc.)


High level proficiency of technical principles, theories, and design concepts in the field of medical device design


Experience with Finite Element Analysis


Machine design, machining, laser welding, catheter assembly techniques


Training and experience in Applied Systems Engineering


Proficiency in SolidWorks


Knowledge of statistical analysis software and applications


Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)


Ability to work well in a team


Self-starter and driver able to execute effectively and work efficiently


Proficient in mechanical engineering fundaments and uses good engineering judgment


Hands-on able to prototype concepts build fixtures
