Quality Technician

Job Description:  Quality Technician

Primary objective is to ensure the quality of all products through measurement, comparison with OEM samples, and reading blueprints. 

Responsibilities:

  • Performs incoming receiving inspection and special test procedures as needed
  • Conducts new product inspection process and new product log versus the OEM sample or a blueprint
  • Measure parts to ensure that they are within specifications
  • Monitor the production line for incorrect assembly techniques and/or assembly errors.
  • Monitor warranty returns, track and investigate common returns.
  • Track warranty claims, investigate anomalies, and report results weekly
  • Perform random quality and safety audits on the floor in all departments
  • Maintain the QC records such as DMR Log, QA list, etc.
  • Maintain quality procedures and perform audits to verify that they are being followed reporting results weekly
  • Notify Product Managers and purchasing team of DMR's and quality issues
  • In the event of a DMR, make sure the quarantine procedure is executed promptly and completely to make sure no defective product is shipped out
  • Follow-up with Purchasing Department on permanent corrective actions
  • Maintains QC hold room and monitors status with the intent of timely disposition
  • Assists with supplier PPAP process
  • Maintain OE samples
  • Ensure that other employees are aware of proper quality inspection activities
  • Keeps records of quarantined inventory and physically verifies its accuracy.
  • Issues deviation requests for management approval
  • Manage facility safety and environmental programs including MSDS
  • Maintains metrology equipment and calibration records
  • Implements continuous improvement

Typical Activities:

Daily:

Audit internal processes and interface with operations to maintain compliance. Perform incoming receiving inspection. Review warranty claims, and internal process errors and implement corrective action.  Maintain quality database for reporting and continuous improvement. Assure that defective product is under quarantine.  Respond to customer complaints.

Weekly:

Update quality procedures and file quality records. Report quality metrics to management. Assist with product approval, supplier corrective action as required.

Skills:

  • high attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • must have the ability to lift 70lbs or more
  • knowledge of metrology and tolerancing
  • ability to read blueprints
  • experience with employee quality training and behavior modification
  • excel skills including vlookups and graphs
  • knowledge of 8D problem solving, PPAP
  • moderate knowledge of statistics and sampling methods
  • strong communication and leadership skills to effectively manage change and interface with management
  • self-directed and acts as a change agent to drive continuous improvement
  • Ability to handle and mitigate potential conflicts between Quality and Operations departments
