Job Summary

AECOMs Water Business Line is seeking a creative, highly talented Project Manager for immediate employment in the Chelmsford, MA office. The appropriate qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate an established career in municipal infrastructure market specializing in wastewater collection, conveyance and treatment; water distribution and treatment; storm water conveyance system; CSO and SSO planning and treatment; flooding analysis and mitigation planning; green infrastructure design, and climate resiliency related work. Most of the near-term work will be predominantly focused on wet weather programs/projects including CSO, SSO, storm water, flooding, and climate resiliency. This position offers a unique opportunity to work within an established and successful group that offers a diverse range of technical challenges and career development opportunities. Much of the work will be conducted in New England but opportunities are expected to extend to NY and Nationally as well as Internationally through Federal programs.

  • Responsibilities include:

  • Serve as a project manager on projects either underway or ready to start as well as future, new projects

  • Proactively resolve performance, scope, cost and schedule challenges

  • Provide clear and focused leadership on all project functions related to project management, project controls, and engineering management to meet the Clients needs and AECOMs overall goals

  • Play a key role in Client management and client development, provide outstanding client service during delivery that will lead to repeat business

  • Create a team environment that supports AECOMs Client focus, where employees meet the expectations, requirements, and agreements of our Clients

  • Define project staffing and resource requirements in consultation with senior staff

  • Consistently deliver on each project to achieve top-tier industry benchmarks for project financial performance and all aspects of overall project delivery (quality control, risk management, profitability, invoicing, and cash collection)

  • Manage talented staff with a broad range of skills

  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to less experienced staff

  • Serve as a technical resource to develop innovative assessments and solutions to complex challenges for predominantly wet weather programs/projects currently underway as well as upcoming opportunities

  • Participation in business development activities including building/strengthening relationships with clients, delivering presentations to Clients, stakeholders, and professional associations

  • Assist with development of regional growth strategies, predominantly in the wet weather market, which will articulate market trends/drivers, recommend priorities where to invest and grow

  • Serve as capture manager prepare proposals, including selling strategies, pricing and negotiation

  • Promote AECOM at local and national conferences through technical conferences.

Manages one or more moderately complex project, involving a combination of the following:

Clients with a regional geographic footprint; OR,

Projects involving multiple services provided by regional IE offices; OR, Other complexities, such as projects that involve litigation, environmental protection, due diligence, etc.

May manage all phases of projects (from beginning to close out).

Works mostly independently but receives basic instruction on specific assignments, objectives, complex features and possible solutions.

Receives technical guidance on unusual or complex problems and supervisory approval on proposed plans for projects.

May supervise: senior level engineers (all disciplines applicable), as well as project administration, project controls, scheduling, cost control, estimating and procurement representatives.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Civil, Environmental, Chemical Engineering or equivalent

  • 2+ years project manager experience

  • Experience in water/wastewater treatment and/or collection facilities

  • Design engineer in the ACEC field.

  • Experience in building and leading teams.

  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously as well as within a team/collaborative environment.

  • Registration as a licensed engineer (PE).

  • Due to the nature of the work, US Citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Engineering Civil, Environmental, Chemical Engineering or equivalent

  • 10+ years experience in water/wastewater treatment and/or collection facilities

  • Strong ability to effectively and pro-actively interface with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Knowledgeable in work with standard project management tools including schedule, earned value, and risk.
