Nobis is hiring a full or part time Project Hydrogeologist to join the Environmental Team in our Concord, NH office to support water supply, environmental investigation, and remediation projects, particularly in bedrock. Were looking for individuals who can provide a full range of technical support, including site assessments, sampling and contractor oversight, calculations to support contaminant fate and transport evaluations, report writing and review, and mentoring of junior staff.



 


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:



  • Collaborate with team members and others to effectively execute assignments. Collects environmental soil, water, air, or other media samples and field data both individually and as part of the field team; operates and maintains necessary field equipment; oversees subcontractors such as drillers and specialty contractors; and prepares and ships samples for analysis.

  • Use previous/historical and field data (chemical, geological, and hydrogeological) and calculations to support investigation and remediation projects. Examples include developing and refining conceptual site models, determining contaminant fate and transport, developing contaminant mass estimates, evaluating well yields for water supply and remediation, and developing remedial alternatives.

  • Produce, review, and interpret technical reports, plans, calculations, and cost estimates for projects.

  • Provide technical direction to team members and subcontractors; mentor and support junior staff.

  • Use software and computer hardware necessary to complete environmental and water supply projects and depict site conditions. Software may include geographic information systems (GIS), computer-aided design and drafting (CADD), spreadsheet and database applications, hydrogeologic software and models, boring log software, and others.

  • Represent Nobis Group at meetings with clients, contractors, subcontractors, regulators, and other consultants to discuss proposed or ongoing work at and for Nobis Group.

  • Familiarity with applicable federal, state, and local rules and regulations as they apply to project work and calculations.



POSITION REQUIREMENTS:




  • Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in hydrogeology, geochemistry, or geology (with an emphasis on hydrogeology course work) is required.  A Masters degree is preferred.

  • Minimum of 6 years of professional experience in the investigation and/or remediation of environmentally impacted sites.

  • Knowledge of chemical fate and transport concepts, including natural attenuation, and experience with interpreting hydrogeologic data in overburden and bedrock.

  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.

  • Must have OSHA 40-hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) certification and annual 8-hour refresher, as applicable.

  • GIT designation strongly preferred, P.G. license is encouraged.

  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience in one of more of the following areas: impacted mine sites, water supply siting evaluations, numerical groundwater modeling, geostatistics, geochemistry, geophysical data evaluation, and the CERCLA process.

  • We use MS Word/Excel/Access, AutoCAD Civil 3D, ESRIs ArcGIS, gINT, and RockWorks suite software packages. Experience with these packages is preferred.

  • A valid drivers license, reliable transportation, and proof of auto insurance is required for this position. Must be able to travel for project site visits, meetings, data collection, and training. Travel is highly dependent on project work requirements and may be extensive at times. Travel may be required to sites throughout and distant from New England.
