The PD Program Manager is responsible for achieving successful implementation of projects and managing all activities required to define, design, develop and deliver program success ultimately providing new cardiovascular products to patients with aortic disease. As a Core Team Leader, the program manager provides direction and leadership to a cross-functional product development team, including members with expertise from all areas involved in medical device commercialization. The Program Manager is accountable to the Product Review Committee (PRC) for overall program execution; ensuring team commitments (scope, schedule, and budget per project contract) are met and communicated in an effective manner.

The Medtronic Aortic business develops minimally invasive solutions for the treatment of abdominal and thoracic aneurysms. Endovascular aneurysm repair is a minimally invasive alternative to major open surgery for the repair of aortic aneurysms that results in reduced recovery times and potentially improved survival rates.


Leads a cross functional team of subject matter experts within a matrixed organization, through the full product development lifecycle

Manages one or more small-scale, developed, or mature programs with well-defined program plans

Accountable for project performance, risk management, administration, financial management, budgeting, capital planning, forecasting, and issue resolution

A Day in the Life:

Provides input to establishing program objectives, timelines, milestones, and budgets

Monitor and ensure alignment of project direction and expectations of senior business leaders to ensure the product or processes meet business, customer, and patient needs

Navigates multifactorial problems that arise, requiring detailed information gathering, analysis, and investigation to understand, communicate, and recommend solutions to challenges

Directs activities for multiple work-stream teams through managing project plans, resourcing, status reporting, resolving issues, identifying project risks, and accountability for deliverables across multiple functional organizations

Establishes meaningful metrics to measure and communicate project progress and quality

Provide critical leadership to ensure overall quality of project planning and execution, while minimizing and mitigating project risks

Meet business deliverables defined by the Product Development Process

Sets clear direction and management that aligns with defined practices and policies

Modify and adapt program management processes to fit project needs and improve operational efficiency

Communicates and leads meeting with project team and stakeholders, including briefings to higher level management team

Provides feedback to functional department heads during Annual Operating Plan (AOP) process and related strategic planning activities

Draws upon engineering experience and exercises judgement on technical actions

Coaches team members to ensure effective team dynamics, collaboration, and mutual accountability

Must Have:

Bachelors Degree

5+years of related experience in the medical device design with demonstrated ability to move ideas from concept to development OR 3+ years of experience with Master's degree.

Nice to Have:

Specialized Knowledge or Skills:

Experience with the medical device regulatory industry

Strong track record of leading complex projects requiring strong influence management skills and willingness and ability to institute change

Demonstrated capacity for strategic thinking, project planning and project management

Excellent communication skills and interpersonal/team effectiveness -- ability to succinctly and accurately communicate to various levels of management and employees

Exceptional analytical, planning, organization and time management skills to effectively execute project plans and budgets

Significant engineering / design experience with high level technical skills - principal level preferred able to apply technical principles, theories, and new concepts to collaboratively solve difficult technical problems

Exceptional project management skills; knowledge of process and project planning best practices

Business acumen; ability to think from an overall best for the business perspective

Ability to work independently and take initiative on tasks

Demonstrates initiative; results oriented

Experience and/or certification in advanced project management (PMP preferred)
