Summary

Maintains supply inventories.
Receives all incoming supplies and equipment, maintains files, and puts stock away.
Under general supervision, directs the preparation of and assists with cooking of food as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Performs receiving functions.
  • Monitors stock returns, usage rates, and par levels for adequacy.
  • Verifies product from the vendors for correct item and quantity.
  • Reports any discrepancies to the vendors.
  • Follows proper return procedures on return items.
  • Generates financial reports on inventory and/or reports needed for department financial trends.
  • Performs data entry when necessary.
  • Maintains food and supply storage areas in a clean and neat environment.
  • Assists with putting stock up.
  • Participates in quarterly inventory.
  • Handles the preparation of food in accordance with sanitary regulations and makes sure at all times that the food is palatable and appetizing in appearance throughout the daily operations of the department.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in the operation of all equipment used in the kitchen.
  • Plans, organizes, and supervises the preparation of food for the various needs of the department.
  • Determines whether a product is prepared correctly and decides if it is to be served.
  • Prepares food for cafeteria, physicians and catered functions and other assigned duties.
  • Checks temperature of prepared foods at various times during the day as well as patient trays for content and temperature.
  • Produces menus for cafeteria and catering in conjunction with other staff members.
  • Assists with planning department flow/operation in units affected by production (pt services, cafeteria, catering).
  • Assures following recipes by staff.
  • Oversees and coaches food service and production staff as assigned.
  • Assures the timely delivery of food.
  • Handles daily operations of unit during absences.

    Qualifications:

    Education

    Required: High School Graduate or equivalent

    Experience

    Required: 5 years of food preparation experience inin restaurant or healthcare environment combined with supply procurement.

    Certifications

    Preferred: Certification as Food or Dietary Manager based on city or state requirements
