Principal Tech Program Manager

Herndon, VA 20170

Job summary
AWS has the most services and features, compared to any other cloud provider€“from infrastructure technologies like compute, storage, and databases€“to emerging technologies, such as machine learning and artificial intelligence, data lakes and analytics, and Internet of Things. The AWS Platform is the glue that holds the AWS ecosystem together, handling over 750 million transactions per second across core AWS building blocks such as resource management & governance, access management & sign-on, cryptography, and billing. In AWS Identity, we build massively scaled, distributed platform capabilities for all of AWS, enabling our customers to control, govern, and secure the most sensitive data on the internet. We are building some of the largest and most complex distributed systems in the world, and we need brilliant engineering leaders to work with us on these initiatives, always innovating with the customer in mind.

The AWS Resource Management team is looking for an experienced Principal Technical Program Manager with a passion for building highly reliable and low latency services for use by all AWS Services and AWS customers to manage their AWS Resources. Come be a part of defining how customers small and large will use and manage their AWS resources, serve hundreds of thousands of transactions per second, and innovate in search space over terabytes of unstructured data. We are embarking on projects to scale our architecture 100X into Millions of Transactions per second, and it€™s a great time to join and contribute to the design and take it all the way to production. We have teams in Seattle, Virginia and Berlin each focused on solving specific challenges in the resource management space like Tagging, Sharing, Bulk Actions and Grouping of Resources.

As the right candidate, you will possess a strong program management background, have demonstrated experience leading large projects, and have a well-rounded technical background in current web technologies. You must be able to thrive and succeed in an entrepreneurial environment, and not be hindered by ambiguity or competing priorities. This means you are not only able to develop and drive high-level strategic initiatives, but can also roll up your sleeves, dig in and get the job done. As a TPM, you will anticipate bottlenecks, provide escalation management, anticipate and make tradeoffs, and balance the business needs versus technical constraints. An ability to take large, complex projects and break them down into manageable pieces, develop functional specifications, then deliver them in a successful and timely manner is expected. Maturity, high judgment, negotiation skills, ability to influence, analytical talent and leadership are essential to success in this role.

Key job responsibilities
