Honeywell Quantum Solutions team is looking for a highly qualified Principal Opto Mechanical Engineer to lead opto-mechanical design, development and test of next generation laser delivery systems and high-resolution cameras for complex and high-density ion traps used in Honeywell€™s world class quantum computer. This position will also provide technical leadership as part of a cross functional product team working on complex electro-opto-mechanical product initiatives; and leveraging your system-level expertise and interact with other teams to assist in overall development of high precision micro optics    .



Key responsibilities:

·       You will lead a team of mechanical engineers to design and develop very complex laser beam delivery and detection systems requiring sub-micron tolerances                       

·       You will create hardware specifications from product requirements.

·       You will create designs that are manufacturable and reliable

·       You will create and execute test strategies that demonstrate that designs meet requirements and specifications

·       You will use standard statistical tools and techniques to analyze and interpret test results

·       You will perform risk and tolerance analysis and perform subsystem FMEA€™s, and sensitivity analysis

·       You will perform optical alignment and tests using interferometers, beam profilers, and metrology equipment                                 

·       You will collaborate with team leads and program managers in the development of project plans, proposals, and schedules



·       Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering required.

·       Minimum 10 years€™ experience with mechanical CAD tools (preferably SolidWorks), FEA & CFD, tolerance analysis, GD&T                                                                                  

·       8+ years of solid understanding of precision opto-mechanical design and systems engineering     

·       5+ years€™ experience with machined and sheet metal part design and engineering materials selection including adhesives   

·       5+ years€™ of working knowledge of optical concepts such as ray aberrations, Gaussian propagation, MTF, Spot sizes, etc                                

·       Applicants for employment for this position must have work authorization that does not now or in the future require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the United States and with Honeywell. (i.e., H1-B visa, F-1 visa (OPT), TN visa or any other non-immigrant status)



·       A PhD degree in Science or Engineering

·       Experience in designing hardware for micro optics, such as fiber optics, waveguides, MEMs

·       At least 5 years of project management experience                                                                                         

·       Experience in taking a lead role in optical systems development

·       Experience in designing for manufacturing



Compensation & Benefits:


Incentive Eligible

Salary Range (min-max): $147,000 - $221,000
