Job Description:

Exciting opportunity to work on programs for cislunar or manned spaceflight in support of moon landing. Our engineers develop mathematical models and simulations for spacecraft electrical power system to support analyses required for power electronics hardware design and control software development, verification and troubleshooting.

Specific Responsibilities:

Define the technical requirements and architecture for the simulation system
Develop, validate, and maintain simulation models of electrical power system component including solar array, lithium ion battery, electric motor and controller, and power electronics
Use simulation to support analyses (transient response, stability, fault coordination) and trade studies
Support defining requirements for hardware component, control software and interfaces
Use simulation to assess potential issues before physical parts are available for testing
Develop interfaces for processor-in-the-loop and hardware-in-the-loop simulators
Prepare test plans, test procedures, test cases, conduct unit to system level testing, and write test reports
Support development of control algorithms for power electronic systems


Basic Requirements for Principal Electrical Engineer:
Bachelors of Science Degree in a STEM Field (ideally Electrical Engineering)
At least 5 years of experience (ideally in Electrical Engineering and/or Power Electronics) (3 yrs w/ Masters, or PhD)

Preferred Qualifications:
Masters of Science degree in Electrical Engineering
Hands-on experience with power semiconductors and switched mode power conversion and their modeling, simulation and testing
Knowledge of fundamental power converter topologies
Strong understanding of switching waveforms, semi-conductor losses and experience with loss modeling
Solid understanding of the theory and application of magnetics in inductors and transformers for power conversion
Expertise in one of more of the following areas: solar based power system, lithium ion battery, electric propulsion system
Experience with power quality and EMI/EMC testing
Familiarity with functional specification, state machines, failure mode effect and criticality analysis and fault tree analysis
Strong model-based design and/or test background (e.g. Simulink, Simscape Power Systems, PSIM, SPICE, AMESim, Saber)
Development/operations of hardware-in-the-loop simulators, conducting testing and troubleshooting of hardware and software interfaces
Prior experience in any of the following areas is a plus.

Using Mathworks Simulink/Stateflow/Simscape and/or Saber.
Experience with MathWorks real time simulation operating system.
Experience with micro-grid, grid-connected power electronics, grid-connected batteries.
Working experience in current model control, compensation design and loop gain measurements.
Developing torque control techniques such as field oriented control, slip-based control, direct torque control {HLS}
Experience with various PWM schemes such as space vector, discontinuous, and sinusoidal modulation {HLS}
