The Cardiac and Vascular Group brings all our cardiac and vascular businesses together into onecross-functional, collaborative operating unit to employ the full breadth of our talent, technologies, products, services, and solutions to address the needs of customers and patients across the globe. Cardiac Rhythm and Heart Failure offers devices and therapies to treat abnormal heart rhythms, as well as cardiac diagnostic and monitoring solutions.


As the Database Architect of Software Architecture and Technology, you will be reporting to the leader of the Architecture and Technology team of the Cardiac Rhythm and Heart Failure (CRHF) RD organization. You will bring best in class SQL Server database design and operational talent to our Data Management Platform and set of applications. These platforms and applications are the software basis of Medtronics offerings that alleviate pain, restore health and extend life for over 1.6M patients in 80 geographies using web, mobile and proprietary device clients providing data from implanted devices. Bring your passion and hard-won experience designing, administering and operating SQL Server for always-on mission critical, web scale applications. Share your expertise from database DevOps, providing automation via Python or other scripting language for example, with architects, developers and DBAs and help us continue to modernize our practices, culture and move engineering and operations forward. Use your experiences to continue pushing observability and feedback loops into development and operations. Youre as comfortable white-boarding, discussing and writing as you are being hands-on with POCs to evaluate new technologies and solutions. You thrive on educating, coaching and mentoring others in our technical community. Youre a continuous learner, staying abreast of technology and the storage developments of the cloud providers. **A Day in the Life:**


+ Work with our Information Architect, plus other Platform and Application Architects to analyze client operations, applications, objectives to develop database design, including physical structure, functional capabilities, security, backup and recovery specifications.

+ Participate in architecture, database, code, and design reviews.

+ Work with developers in Application DevOps teams to make devops for databases a reality, leveraging your experiences in Infrastructure as Code.

+ Develop automated methods to determine if indexes, statistics or other operational measures must be implemented to maintain database performance, meet SLAs, leveraging your skills with management/monitoring tools such as Idera or Redgate.

+ Ensuring our runbooks, training and education represent the best practices for operating, managing, troubleshooting of mission critical SQL Server databases.

+ Put together and participate in innovation POCs, as well develop utilities for database self-service.

+ Work with IT on optimal database environments, analyzing complex distributed deployments and making recommendations to optimize performance.


**Must Have: Minimum Requirements**


+ Bachelors degree required

+ Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience


**Nice to Have:**


+ 5+ years as SQL Server Database Architect aspart of a software development organization developing mission criticalapplications following Agile and DevOps practices.

+ Current hands-on implementation experiencerequired: individual contributors only.

+ Strong written and oral communication skillsacross diverse audiences in both software development and traditional ITroles.

+ Excellent attitude and aptitude withdemonstrated strategic mindset that can drive change.

+ Experience in Big Data solutions and emergingtechnologies like HBase, MongoDB, Cassandra (NoSQL databases), Kafka, Python,Hadoop, etc...

+ Experience working with application developmentin the healthcare domains of an FDA regulated environment.

+ Experience with clinical domain systems andstandards (e.g. Epic, HL7)
