PRECISION INSPECTOR (STARLINK PRODUCT)

Starlink demands a new type of supply chain. We require our suppliers to provide premium quality with rapidly evolving designs at commercial scale volumes. We are actively looking for candidates who possess comprehensive knowledge of manufacturing and quality tools and have unrelenting motivation to enable suppliers for success.

This position supports the Supply Chain team by performing dimensional inspection and programming for supplier provided parts with operational rigor, providing high service levels to all stakeholders, and partnering with Supply Chain Engineering to enable continuous reliable supply to production. This includes creating programs for stable and newly designed parts, performing work according to detailed inspection plans, reporting nonconformances to engineering rapidly and effectively, and providing feedback for improvement and development of the inspection team and our processes. In this role, you will regularly interact with several departments and key stakeholders to enable program success.

To be successful, you will need:

  • A willingness to roll up your sleeves and step into chaotic situations, using technical knowledge and quality background to understand the current state and most optimal path forward
  • An attention to drawing detail and the ability to perform dimensional inspection with little oversight
  • The capability to succinctly communicate status and needed action, often urgently, to your supervisor and other management levels
  • An ability to create and refine ideas or solutions to problems, communicating the benefits of change, and keeping related projects on track
  • An ability to acquire new technical knowledge, particularly around how purchased components and assemblies integrate into the rocket and spacecraft

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work in a cross functional environment utilizing PC-DMIS programming skills as applied to an articulating Romer ARM and CMMs
  • Create, maintain and verify CMM programs used for the measurements of manufactured and supplied parts
  • Inspect supplied product according to the applicable drawing and/or inspection plans to verify that it conforms to all design requirements
  • Perform complex inspections following standardized methods with limited oversight
  • In-process inspection, visual and/or dimensional inspection of precision machined parts
  • Interact proactively with production to improve products and reduce defects
  • Communicate and help resolve quality related issues
  • Document non-conformances in accordance with prescribed procedures and processes
  • Support quality management system policies and procedure documentation, assess compliance to company and industry standards, initiate and lead continual improvement and Lean manufacturing initiatives
  • Performs documentation review and verification of certifications, specifications, and conformance to design and specification requirements, as needed

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate
  • 4+ years of quality inspection experience in a machine shop

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Romer Arm experience with PCDMIS software
  • DCC (direct computer controlled) CMM with PC-DMIS software experience
  • Thorough understanding of all layout inspection tools (surface plate, height gage, indicators, calipers, micrometers, gage blocks, and thread gages)
  • Advanced understanding of blueprint reading, shop math and GD&T
  • Understanding of ISO 9001/AS9100 quality management systems
  • Solid computer skills in Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel
  • Ability to review drawings and identify improper callouts/datum structures, according to ASME Y14.5

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs unassisted
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods €“ 8 hours min
  • Must be able to work overtime and weekend as needed
