Cedars-Sinai is an medical institute located in Los Angeles and in involved in cutting edge translational research. The post doctorate job is an unique opportunity for individuals who would like an option to work in a translational research in the department of neurosurgery. The position in open in Butte laboratory which is involved in developing instrumentation for in-vivo identification of tumor using time resolved fluorescence spectroscopy. The research from the lab is currently in transition to be commercialized. The post doctorate engineer should be interested in combining multiple disciplines such as fiber optics, signal processing, high speed instrumentation and data analysis. The post doc will have option to transfer to the start-up company spun out of this research in the future. Experience or aptitude to work with various hardware environments is essential, with strong aptitude for solving complex problems. Interest in experiencing a start-up environment with an entrepreneurial spirit is desired. The post doc will work with a team of scientists, engineers and surgeons as well as pathologists. The start-up is currently in early stage and is currently being incubated at the institute, due to the nature of early stage start ups the post doc will have to be adaptable to variety of situations. Qualifications for position: expert in instrumentation, data analysis, signal processing is required. Additional experience in tissue optics, fiber and free space optics, image processing, will be considered as a strong point. Ability to program in MATLAB, Python, C++ is strongly desired. Ability to work in the clinical environment is essential (The candidate will be involved in data collection from human subject in the operating room environment) Other responsibilities: Analyzes and interprets data. May assist in preparation of grant proposals. Participates in publications and presentations as author or co-author. Not responsible for generating grant funds. Additionally, 1. Designs and performs experiments. Will keep appropriate experimental records and documentation and analyze the results with the Principal Investigator. 2. May develop, adapt, and implement new research techniques and protocols. 3. Analyzes, interprets, summarizes and compiles data. 4. Performs routine and complex laboratory procedures throughout training period. 5. Operates and maintains equipment and instruments. License/Certification/Registration Requirements: Strong programming skills in C/C++, Matlab, labview or similar languages are required. Experience: Works independently on research projects designed by a mentor (typically the PI) within area of specialization. Acquires thorough technical and theoretical knowledge of research project and objectives during one to five (1-5) year post-doctoral appointment. Demonstrated aptitude to perform experimental protocols and procedures, including detailed data collection, and analysis and operation and maintenance of specialized equipment. Knowledge of safety standards and maintenance of specialized equipment. Physical Demands: (e.g., lifting, standing, walking) Position requires working with computers for extended periods and the use of specialized laboratory equipment. Must be able to sit, stand and/or stoop for long periods. Must be able to lift at least 20 pounds..
