The Cellular Engineering lab at IBM Research - Almaden is looking for a postdoctoral scholar, to work on a DARPA funded effort on dynamic of viral defective interfering particles (DIPs). DIPs are viral variants which lack essential elements to complete their replication cycles. When co-infecting with their parent virus, DIPs may act as parasites, thereby potentially becoming therapeutic in nature. The candidate will work on computational and mathematical simulations of DIPs competition, to understand and establish particle design principles as therapeutics. The candidate will work in a highly interdisciplinary team of scientists at multiple institutions and is expected to frequently interact with experimental and theoretical biologists. The ideal candidate is skilled in mathematical modeling and dynamical simulations of biological systems, and is familiar with atomistic and molecular modeling, is a strong group player and has a strong simulation background with python or other high level programming languages.

  • PhD in mathematics, physics, computational biology or related fields
  • Experience of scientific programming (python, matlab, R and similar)
  • Experience in dynamic simulations, atomistic and molecular modeling, or dynamical modeling

  • Excellent publication record
