Job Summary

The mission of the Center for Outcomes Research (COR) at the Houston Methodist Research Institute (HMRI) is to conduct applied team research, develop researchers, and exert national leadership towards improved health outcomes for diverse patient populations by designing, testing and validating, and implementing innovations in healthcare delivery.

This announcement is for a postdoctoral fellow 0 €“ 2, who will train in and support a research program focused on neurological diseases and stroke. The candidate will get an opportunity to train and interface with nationally renowned research and clinical faculty. The institution has a focus on data driven approaches to foster learning healthcare systems and prior quantitative experience in analysis of population\level data and big data is desirable. Skill in use of analytical software such as R and STAT and familiarity with programming / database management languages such Python and SQL are desirable. The candidate is expected to lead projects under supervision and maintain strong track\record of first author publications in scientific peer\reviewed journals. Scientific writing skills to accomplish these objectives are therefore necessary. Opportunity for involvement in and training for grant writing will also be provided. The candidate will be mentored by one primary PI but will have opportunity to develop a mentorship team across COR and Houston Methodist Hospital.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Ÿ Develops research methods and performs research activities. (EF)

Ÿ Documents research results' prepares project updates, and writes reports of results for presentation and/or publication in professional journals and other publications. (EF)

Ÿ Assists in maintaining the functionality and operations of the Principal Investigator's laboratory. (EF)

  • Conduct data analysis €“ quantitative and qualitative research including use of appropriate software, such as Stat, SPSS, SAS, Atlas.ti and/or Nvivo.
  • Mentor graduate and undergraduate students on current/potential research projects. Serve a teaching role in developing students' research skills. Also assist students with developing IRBs.

Ÿ Follows all safety rules while on the job. Reports accidents promptly and corrects minor safety hazards. Communicates with peers and management regarding any hazards identified in the workplace. (EF)

M.D. or Ph.D required

Postdoctoral Fellow 2 €“ two years of experience

Postdoctoral Fellow 3 €“ three years of postdoc experience

Postdoctoral Fellow 4 €“ four years of postdoc experience

Experience in biomedical research required.
