Through the leadership of the BH Assistant Director of Pharmacy Operations and the BMC Operations Manager, this BMC leadership position is primarily responsible for coordinating daily pharmacy operations at BMC.  This includes employee scheduling and oversight of workflows in the central pharmacy to ensure safe and effective operations, focusing on adherence to policy and procedures, accountability for operational metrics and regulatory requirements, and assessment of staffing needs.  The Coordinator will be expected to participate or lead the identification, design and implementation of process improvement initiatives in our workflows to streamline workflows and use our staff efficiently, while advancing our services and personnel.  The Pharmacy Operations Coordinator will ensure that appropriate communication and planning occurs to engage staff and other members of the leadership team to collaborate on shared goals, prepare for change and ensure expectations for policies and procedures are being met.

The Pharmacy Operations Coordinator will help lead the BMC Operational Leadership Committee and serve on other Committees as necessary to coordinate and maintain pharmacy services.  The coordinator is expected to work with the leadership team to develop goals that are aligned with departmental, service line and organizational strategy.  The Pharmacy Operations Coordinator will also maintain a practice area and where applicable, will serve as an APPE and PGY1 Preceptor.

Performs other pharmacist, leadership and administrative duties as assigned; this includes on-call, inpatient pharmacy staffing, special projects and regulatory oversight (DPH, Board of Pharmacy, TJC).  Conducts staff meetings, attends appropriate hospital committees and is able to react to (and embrace) change. Adheres to system and department compliance policies, and any and all applicable laws and regulations.

Job Requirements:

1) Pharmacy Operations Oversight:

Uses metrics and employee observations to ensure staff members are following policies and procedures, and we are meeting staffiing needs, while building teamwork and increasing employee engagement in daily operations.  Triages workload and escalates issues as necessary to the Pharmacy Leadership team.  this includes assessing workload to adjust staffing as needed.  Uses staff engagement to identify and prioritize process improvement needs relatingn to workflow.  Maintains excellent communication with the Pharmacy Leadership team.

2)Schedule Design and Maintenance:Designs employee schedule and manages Personal Time requests as well as manages the hold-back program for the employees that this person schedules for.

3) APPE/PGY-1 Preceptor:

Serves as an APPE and PGY-1 Preceptor for the central pharmacy practice area.

4) Acute Care Pharmacy Support:

Supports the pharmacy team staffing in the acute care pharmacy.

Required Work Experience:

1) 3 years leadership

2) 5 years preceptor/educator experience

1) Undergraduate and Graduate Education Requirements and Accreditation Standards

2) Interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills

3) Knowledge of computer systems (i.e. Microsoft applications, Clinical Information Systems, PharmAcademic)


Doctorate: Pharmacology (Required)
