As the region's only Level I Trauma center, Harborview Medical Center is well known for innovations and excellence in trauma care and its centers of emphasis: Trauma, Burn, Neurosciences, AIDS/STD CARER, and mentally and medically vulnerable populations. The Harborview Medical Center Parking has an outstanding opportunity for a PATIENT SERVICES SPECIALIST 1-TRAINEE OR PSS 2 (Full-Time, Day Shifts). This position is a primary point of contact for individuals entering a lobby in select buildings on the HMC campus.  The individual represents HMC and UW Medicine in a manner that welcomes people and reflects a strong sense of excellence with regards to both the care that we provide and the experience that can be expected.  Through actions and behaviors, demonstrates HMCs mission, vision and values.

Job Responsibilities:
Monitor the lobby to ensure that patients, visitors, and staff are able to enter, navigate, and access areas as is intended and in a manner that is genuinely welcoming and safe.
Respond to patient and visitor requests and provides directions to specified areas such as clinics, meeting rooms, eating facilities, and other buildings in a manner that is friendly and supportive.
Communicate information on hospital programs to patients, visitors and staff.  Represents the hospital and programs in a professional and positive manner.
Respond to questions and concerns about parking and assist with payments, and navigating garages, side streets and the HMC campus.
Triage telephone calls and requests for information to provide a quick and supportive response.  Follows-up with requesters to ensure needs were met.
Assist with orienting new tenants and staff.
Oversee the environmental conditions such as the seating, lighting, cleanliness, and general safety conditions.  Submits work orders to address needs and to maintain high standards.
Respond to questions associated with repairs and work requests and guides staff to appropriate contacts and procedures for submitting requests.
Support communication strategies such as distributing flyers and announcements.  May work in coordination with Security Services, Parking and Commuter Services, the Safety Officer, etc. to provide information to visitors and staff.
Oversee vendor check-in and badging activities as assigned.
Maintain records and logs of observations, activities, calls, etc. as directed.  Performs general clerical duties such as answering and screening telephone calls and assembling and sending information.  Creates computer based documents as assigned.
Recommend ways to enhance communications with patients, visitors, and staff.  Participates in preparation and maintenance of policies and procedures for area of responsibility.
Monitor activity in lobby and parking garages and requests assistance as is appropriate.  May monitor views from security cameras.
May help guide first responders to areas (when conditions do not create safety risks for the individual).
Serve as a safety warden and initiates emergency procedures when necessary.
Participate in training associated with job duties and Service Culture Guidelines.
Assigned building may vary.  Provides relief to similar position(s) as assigned.
Patient Services Specialists are hired as either PSS 1-Trainee or PSS 2, depending on experience and qualifications. The requirements are:
PATIENT SERVICES SPECIALISTS 1-TRAINEE REQUIREMENTS: High School graduation or equivalent AND one year of experience in a health care setting OR two years of general office experience OR equivalent education/experience.
PATIENT SERVICES SPECIALISTS 2 REQUIREMENTS: High School graduation or equivalent AND one year of experience in a health care setting OR three years of general office or customer services experience OR equivalent education/experience.
