Overview

The Safety Manager serves as a highly visible energetic leader and champion for patient safety and team member safety and is responsible for implementation of the RHS safety program. The Safety Manager promotes high reliability for recommended evidence based safety behaviors and practices focusing on people process and technology to improve safety related performance. The Safety Manager supports a learning environment focused on patient and team member safety and applies just culture principles to assure these principles are evident throughout the organization. The Safety Manager is responsible for the daily management of the rCare safety event reporting system application and related processes and business rules related to the components of the safety event feedback loop. The safety event feedback loop includes: detection of safety issues; capture of safety issues; classification of safety events; analysis of safety event data; prioritization of investigation(s); conducting investigations applying just culture principles to identify root causes and contributory factors; formulating safety solutions and system improvements; implementing changes in work systems to correct system and process vulnerabilities and monitoring the effectiveness of solutions to prevent recurrence. The Safety Manager ensures that established policies procedures business rules and just culture principles are applied related to the safety event reporting system. The Safety Manager provides oversight and direction for safety related data management functions and processes consistent with RHS standards for data collection and reporting. The Safety Manager implements and supports the safety program that includes the safety culture survey and action planning that includes just culture training team training such as TeamSTEPPS? training and training related to safety event reporting. The Safety Manager oversees and coordinates improvement projects as assigned. The Safety Manager works closely and collaboratively with medical nursing and clinical leadership to implement improvement strategies to continually improve patient and team member safety; and provides input into the annual safety plan and year end summary report of progress toward goals and related achievements.Shore Memorial Hospital is located in Onancock, Virginia on the beautiful Eastern Shore! Onancock is a rural area with beaches and wildlife to include the 9,000 acre Chincoteague wildlife refuge. This brand new, state of the art facility is a 52-bed hospital with private rooms, a Surgical Suite with three operating rooms, a ten bed Intensive Care Unit, and an advanced Emergency Department with all private treatment rooms. The hospital has expanded the outpatient services to include a diagnostic center with advanced imaging services including MRI and CT scanner, on-campus Cancer Care Center and a freestanding medical office building housing our specialty physician offices. The Virginia Delmarva Peninsula is nestled between the Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic Ocean and offers that rare treasure - peace. Northampton County has the distinction of being one of the earliest settlements in our nation's history and this rural County retains its pastoral beauty and leisurely pace to this day. Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree healthcare, behavioral science or related field required. Master's Degree preferred.Three to five years of relevant experience in hospital health care quality, safety and/or risk management. Experience in project development, project management and strong analytical skills, including data management and data analysis required. Knowledge of clinical quality, patient safety and/or patient satisfaction performance measures and indicators, data definitions and sources and relevant national databases and benchmarks; knowledge of healthcare quality, safety and satisfaction data design, collection, aggregation and summarization; and expert knowledge of performance improvement models, methods and systems required. Demonstrated leadership on projects providing subject matter expertise and technical direction to other project team members.Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS); and/or Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM), preferred and required within 6 months of hire. Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ); Healthcare Safety Certified Professional (HACP); and/or Certified Joint Commission Professional (CJCP) preferred.
