Regina Hospital, located in Hastings, Minn., provides health care services including primary care, internal medicine, general surgery, orthopedics, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, emergency medicine, inpatient geriatric mental health, urology and occupational medicine. The Hastings campus also includes senior living facilities, two Allina Health clinics and a surgery center.

  • Initiates an appropriate greeting to all patients, families and visitors to the unit
  • Assist patients, family members and visitors with way finding on the unit and throughout the hospital.
  • Promptly attends to patient/family needs.
  • Addresses concerns and complaints as they arise, assisting with resolution.
  • Attends to patient needs giving full attention when providing care.
  • Answering of patient call lights promptly.
  • Uses communication techniques and adapts performance of skills to meet the needs of the patient/family/customer based on age and other special needs.
  • Answers unit telephone promptly, giving location, name and title.
  • Screens, verifies and relays messages to appropriate unit personnel.
  • Communicates physician requests to RN and/or other appropriate unit personnel.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in all hospital computer information systems as used by the unit.
  • Completes and files birth certificates with MN Department of Health
  • Data manager for MN OZ Program
  • Completes computer and/or hardware related issue prevention and maintenance tasks including follow-up to ensure resolution to outstanding issues.
  • Maintains patient records for easy access and retrieval of informational reports.

  • Checks the downtime computer per IS direction and calls the computer into the help desk if there are problems.
  • Assists with printing necessary downtime reports.
  • Accurately transcribes written physician orders and appropriate nursing protocols in a timely fashion during downtime.
  • Deconstructs the paper chart, and restocks the paper chart with any forms that were used during downtime.

  • Follows established procedures to facilitate patient placement.
  • Facilitates patient discharge process as needed.
  • Clarifies work assignments and priorities with health care team members.
  • Reports pertinent information to the staff nurse and charge nurse and other health care team members as appropriate.
  • Assist with hourly patient rounding
  • Orients new personnel to the role and unit systems.
  • Gives and receives constructive feedback.
  • Seeks resolution of conflict situations and identifies problem solving steps, as needed.
  • Supports patient care and department needs by being flexible in scheduling of hours and accepting assignments.

  • Maintaining and ordering supplies and equipment in a cost effective manner. Puts away biweekly supply order.
  • Protects patients, self and others from injury and accidents by maintaining a safe and uncluttered environment.
  • Follows safety/security procedures for emergency and non-emergency situations to protect patient, self, environment and others from harm.
  • Protects patient, self and others from injury by using proper equipment and body mechanics.
  • Reports environmental risks to Supervisor, Environmental Services and Maintenance using the proper workflow.
  • Clean equipment and restock rooms to ensure ready room.
  • Reports equipment malfunctions to supervisor, IS and CES using the proper workflow.
  • Completes measurements as trained and delegated according to critical elements of policy/procedures: vital signs, weights, intake and output, positioning, ambulation.
  • Reports immediately to the RN observations/health status data that are not within normal limits for the patient, or are significantly changed.
  • Reports patient needs/questions to the appropriate nurse.
  • Documents according to documentation guidelines.
  • Completes interventions according to identified critical elements of each procedure.
  • Distributes and sets up water, snacks and patient trays, and assists patients according to diet/intake order for the patient feeding needs of the patient.
  • Assists patient with grooming and hygiene needs, maintains skin integrity, personal comfort and age-specific needs of the patient. Including the following: oral hygiene, linen change, bathing, AM/PM and HS care, assistance with bedpan, urinal, commode, catheter, grooming dressing, application of support hose, braces, implements toileting routine as designated in plan of care.
  • Provides assistance with ambulation, transfer, positioning and ROM according to activity order and needs of the patient.
  • Implements activities of fall prevention plan as specified in plan of care including frequent observation and supervision in the bathroom.
  • Ensure placement/use of bed and chair alarms for all high fall risk patients.
  • Ensure Falling Star signage is placed for all high fall risk patients.
  • Maintains specimens, and reports to the appropriate nurse.
  • Provides assistance to the nurse for admission, transfer, discharge, and post-mortem care.
  • Notifies RN immediately of changes in patient condition.
  • Assist with on-going completion of patient care boards at shift start and throughout day as needed.
  • Complete assigned unit quality checks as trained and delegated by unit standards and report or resolve variances.
  • Perform unit specific room checks.
  • Perform equipment quality control according to Allina Labs and regulatory requirements.
  • Follows relevant compliance regulations, guidelines and policies related to documentation and billing in daily work activities to assure accurate billing.
  • Meets requirements for annual compliance education.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient information.
  • Maintains patient rights in accordance with the Minnesota Patient’s Bill of Rights.
  • Understands the importance of maintaining the confidentiality of the content of a medical record.


  • High school graduate or GED and Certified Nursing Assistant required
  • OR completed one year of nursing school at an accredited program required.


  • Current NA or PCA/PCT experience preferred.
  • Current HUC/medical terminology experience preferred.
  • BLS upon hire preferred or within 90 days of hire required.
  • Basic computer skills which includes keyboarding, data entry, website navigation and Microsoft Office including Excel and Word.
  • Excellent and effective written and verbal communication skills, proficient in the English language.
  • Ability to navigate websites and complete data uploads.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks. Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to work well with patients, families, and other team members.
  • Demonstrates all the characteristics of service excellence and patient centered care: listening, respect, compassion and accepting individuality.
  • Ability to function in a high paced, highly complex and ever changing environment.

Work Schedule

  • 18 hours per week
  • 12-hour Night shifts
  • Work two weekends of six-week schedule and rotating holiday schedule.
