We are looking for a dynamic technical contributor who can develop test solutions for our EO/IR products. They will have Test Engineering responsibilities for developing test solutions and supporting testing of complex electo-opto-mechanical systems during prototype, production, & repair phases.


The following reflects management’s definition of essential functions for this job:  

  • Analyze projects to determine best test approach. Evaluate existing test approaches to leverage from in order to develop cost-effective test solutions.
  • Develop optical test procedures, equipment and code for the testing of systems and optical sub-assemblies.  Support product development, especially as it relates to product test and design for test.
  • Work with optical and systems engineering to develop test requirements that meet product/project goals. 
  • Work with functional and project management to develop project schedules & budgets.
  • Based on test requirements, interfaces and product designs, develop and document test plans that meet project goals quickly and efficiently.  Presents test plans for review by peers and management.
  • Ensure all test development is documented per standard processes.
  • Meet with project teams on an on-going basis to discuss project progress, obstacles and solutions. Identify problems discovered and recommend solutions. 
  • Meet project milestone deadlines on or before scheduled completion dates.
  • Work with Business Development and Project Engineering to estimate test solution scope and cost
  • Continuously monitor test processes and yields to drive improvement.  Implement metrics and tracking systems to support process and yield improvement.
  • Provide timely production support and problem resolution.


    • Technical Acumen – demonstrated through successful test development experiences involving complex systems such as optics, detector arrays, video processing electronics, solid-state lasers, or stabilization mechanisms.
    • Creative Solutions – direct contribution to technical solutions that support product manufacturing.    
    • Test & Verification – can articulate what and how key system performance parameters should be tested, can outline and write verification test plans for subsystem and system elements, can perform the testing and analyze the results
    • Communication - Able to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical internal customers.  Excellent listening, written and verbal skills.
    • Planning - Able to successfully prioritize and manage multiple projects. Acute attention to detail. Excellent organizational skills. Able to work under pressure of changing deadlines and still meet commitments.
    • Clarity of Thought - Understands problems, areas of risk, and areas for improvement within production unit, including the processes and checkpoints.
    • Integrity - High level of professional integrity and ethics. Able to maintain a professional demeanor and diplomacy when dealing with others.

      Basic Qualifications & Education:

      • Education – B.S. degree (Optics, Physics, Engineering) or related discipline, MS preferred.
        • Experience – 5+ years of related experience
        • High level of expertise in at least 3 of the following areas and a basic understanding in the other areas:
        • System and/or production test development.
        • Optical design, test, and/or production.
        • Factory test systems development, design and documentation standards.
        • Real time production issue resolution. 
        • Test software development using tools such as LabView, Python, and STREAMS (or equivalent).
        • Experience flowing optical Design-For-Test requirements to design engineering.
        • Complex product support (installation, trouble-shooting, customer interface)
        • Functional or project management experience
          • Strong optical, mechanical and geo-spatial comprehension skills
          • Understanding of defense products
          • Strong interpersonal and facilitation skills
          • Must be a US Citizen.
          • Pre-employment federal level drug screening and background checks are standard.

            ADA Requirements:

            • Some repetitive motion activities
            • Visual acuity to operate equipment, read technical information
            • Able to use a computer/keyboard for extended periods of time
              • May be required to lift up to 50 lbs, with assistance
              • Able to use office & test equipment and computers/peripherals in a typical office/light manufacturing environment
                • Fast paced, schedule-driven environment; Some stress related to making decisions with ambiguous information
                • Willing and able to work extended hours when necessary
