Provides supervision for staff under the direction of the Operating Room Manager.
  • Assesses plans, develops, implements, evaluates and revises education programs to meet the clinical needs of staff or to comply with federal, state, regulatory or organizational policy.  Plans continuing education programs for nurses and other disciplines when indicated according to established guidelines.
  • Collaborates with Peri-operative Educator to update department specific content for learning modules, orientation packets, and unit specific policies and procedures for staff, new hires, and contracted workers.  Participates in evaluations for new staff prior to completion of probationary period.  
  • Provides clinical instruction to staff on units to assess and assist with competency development.
  • Collaborates with Staffing Coordinator and Clinical Leaders with regards to department staffing,  scheduling, and timecard coding to assure compliance with departmental and organizational policies and procedures.    
  • Maintains current knowledge of The Joint Commission and other applicable regulatory standards for assigned unit and participates in regulatory inspections.  Insures that policies and procedures are current, makes corrections resulting from such surveys, documents changes made and ensures that policies and procedures are current. 
  • Participates in interviews, selection, orientation, schedules, and assigns unit personnel. Conducts performance evaluations of assigned personnel and contributes evaluation information on other personnel as assigned.
  • Supervises and evaluates clinical activities of contracted licensed nurses working within their department and ensures contracted licensed nurses know current policies and procedures.
  • Counsels employees, recommends various personnel actions resolves conflicts among staff, and aids in resolution of grievances as assigned.  
  • Collaborates with hospital support services to provide a safe, clean and secure environment for patients, staff and visitors.  Evaluates and sets standards for unit facilities and equipment, and monitors utilization of equipment, supplies and utilities.  
  • Participates in identification of the aspects of care for the patient, indicators used to monitor the quality and appropriateness of care, and the evaluation of that care.
  • Reviews  electronic incident reports for all coverage departments and participates in any required root cause analyses, including any corrective action plan.
  • Participates in the identification, creation, implementation, and evaluation of Process Improvement projects for assigned areas.
  • Serves as a resource person to other units in clinical specialty. Serves on nursing committees, hospital committees or professional nursing organizations.  Fosters good public relations for unit, department and hospital. 
  • Promotes open communication within the unit, department and with other units and departments.  Plans and conducts unit staff meetings.  Works with medical staff to coordinate medical and nursing management of patient care. 
  • Will be responsible for the following areas for coverage in the Manager’s absence: Operating Room, Anesthesia, Open Heart and Endoscopy
  • Performs other work related duties as assigned or requested.

  • Current Registered Nurse license to practice professional nursing in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • BSN preferred.  
  • Three to five years Peri-operative Service experience. 
  • Experience in assigned clinical area required. 
  • Three to five years of progressively responsible Nursing leadership experienced preferred.   
  • Must maintain BLS certification. 
  • ACLS within 1 year of hire.
  • Must maintain certifications appropriate to assigned clinical areas.


Schedule Details: Full time, Monday - Friday, start times may rotate, Occ. Weekends and Holidays, on call availability by phone
