SSM Health Illinois seeks an inpatient only Behavioral Medicine NP or PA to join its established team and the staff at St. Marys Hospital in Centralia, IL.

This is an employed position with SSM Health - Illinois a premier hospital system located in Centralia, Illinois, where easy access is available to St. Louis, Chicago, Evansville, Indianapolis & Louisville.

Enjoy joining an established practice with a team Physicians and Nurse Practitioners caring for the patients on our adult and geriatric inpatient units. This position is an inpatient only position that works every other weekend. Your shifts will include daily rounding on Saturday and Sunday and night call on Saturday night. Nightly call is done by phone from home and shared with the other team members on rotation with you!

Successful candidates will possess:

+ Completion of NP or PA program, from an accredited institution

+ Possess of secondary training in Behavioral Medicine

+ Board Certification

+ Previous experience working as a Behavioral Medicine APP of at least 1 year

+ Illinois NP or PA license

In collaboration with a physician(s), provides for the expansion of individualized primary healthcare services by diagnosing and treating certain acute or chronic health conditions. This position is also responsible for coordinating and supervising the activities of the Nurse Practitioners in the specified area.

+ Demonstrates and provides professional nursing care to patients requiring an advanced level of knowledge and management of their nursing care.

+ Assess patient of any age presenting for health care and obtains a personal medical history, appropriate physical examination and recording the resulting information. Performs routine therapeutic procedures including, but not limited to, injections, immunizations, suturing, splinting, I & Ds and removal of foreign bodies. Prescribes appropriate pharmacologic agents. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served. The provider must demonstrate knowledge of the ability to assess data reflective of the patients status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patients requirements relative to his or her age specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the departments policies and procedures.

+ Plans for patient care by making comprehensive clinical decisions based on advanced diagnostic skills and professional judgment, reviewing results of diagnostic tests and procedures, developing and implementing a treatment plan for the patient and/or family, and providing a wide range of interventions (including injections, immunizations, and oral medications) required to effect change.

+ Problem solving skills demonstrated by making competent advanced clinical decisions, utilizing appropriate resources, consulting with physician, and involving management where necessary.

+ Maintains effective methods of formal and informal communication with staff so that dissemination of information/administrative decisions are conveyed in a positive and supportive manner; motivates and supports staff to achieve department/contractual goals and operational benchmarks.

+ Contributes to the satisfaction of the medical staff by collaborating with physicians to deliver best care.

+ Recognizes and utilizes opportunities to act as a change agent by introducing nursing practice innovations.

+ Evaluates nursing practices associated with specialty area, defines needs/problems with patient care and makes constructive suggestions that creates a positive patient outcome.

+ Promotes positive health behaviors and self-care skills through education and/or counseling.

+ Facilitates referral of patients to other appropriate community healthcare facilities, agencies and resources.

+ Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.

+ Performs other duties as assigned.


+ Master's degree from nationally accredited Nurse Practitioner program


+ Four years' experience


+ Constant use of speech to share information through oral communication.

+ Constant standing and walking.

+ Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.

+ Frequent sitting, reaching and keyboard use/data entry.

+ Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) and to identify and distinguish colors.

+ Frequent use of smell to detect/recognize odors.

+ Frequent use of hearing to receive oral communication, distinguish body sounds and/or hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc.

+ Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs.

+ Occasional lifting/moving of patients.

+ Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting, gripping and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.

+ Occasional driving.

+ Rare crawling and running.
