Harborview Medical Center has an outstanding leadership opportunity as Assistant Nurse Manager, (RN3) for 3EH - Medicine/Telemetry (nights).

Position Responsibilities include:
                         
Maintains and applies current knowledge in nursing practice.
Demonstrates expertise in the delivery of patient care.
Mentors new employees and acts as primary preceptor for charge nurses.
Assures new employees received orientation to HMC, PCS, and unit operations.
Assures employees have access to policies, procedures and other references to facilitate their work.
Assures that employee performance is evaluated in writing at 6 months and annually there after.
Assures that all staff is scheduled for mandatory education and pertinent in-services.
Facilitates access to and use of e-mail, CIS, and voicemail.
Assists with needs assessment and facilitates scheduling of unit based education.
Participates in the evaluation of unit based education.
Implements education regarding standards of care, care management tools and operational guidelines.
Facilitates introduction and training to new products and equipment.
Assures communication of management information, changes, new and revised policy and procedures for HMC and PCS.
Participates in the interview process for new applicants.
Prepares annual evaluations that represent the performance and developmental goals of the employees.
Coordinates volunteer/ancillary staff.
Develops and maintains master schedules.
Develops and maintains weekly schedules.
Reviews and processes requests from staff for time off appropriately.
Prepares and delivers unit payroll in a timely and accurate manner.
Provides appropriate and timely coaching and counseling.
Collaborates with nurse manager to implement and monitor employee development.
Participates in the analysis of budget variances related to staffing resources utilization, such as monitoring the use of overtime.
Participates in nursing recruitment and retention activities.
Ensures supply levels meet unit needs.
Ensures staff functions within safety, infection control, emergency and equipment guidelines.
Proactively assesses staffing needs, resources and takes appropriate action.
Collaborates with the unit manager on special projects based on unit needs.
Unit specific projects and assignments are completed in a timely manner without need for prompting.
Performs delegated duties in the absence of the nurse manager.
Serves as a role model and mentor to charge nurses.
Facilitates and models effective interdisciplinary collaboration related to patient care and unit operations.
Acts as an advocate for on-going care management initiative (e.g. pathways)
Proactively facilitates discharge planning; anticipates obstacles and intervenes effectively.
Alerts nurse manager to actual or potential problems in a timely manner.
Investigates complaints and initiates corrective action within scope of authority.
Suggests and conducts audits (formal and informal) to monitor unit standards.
Utilizes incident reports to assess and improve patient care, including counseling staff and addressing system issues as needed.
Ensures patient property procedures are followed.
Recognizes ethical dilemmas and initiates use of appropriate resources.
Facilitates and models the use of clinical pathways on unit.
Suggests improvements in clinical pathways or operations based on analysis of variance data and observations.
Effectively solves problems intra – and inter- departmentally.
Contributes to the professional development of staff, colleagues and others.
Provides nursing care in accordance with professional practice standards.
Continually seeks to improve own professional nursing practice and promotes professional nursing in others.
Functions within PCS, HMC policies, procedures and guidelines.
Considers factors related to safety, effectiveness and cost in coordinating patient care for the unit.
Is a role model in clear and courteous communication with staff and other departments.
Willingly offers assistance and expertise to other departments
Demonstrates willingness and ability to motivate co-workers to continually improve performance and professionalism.
Initiates projects and activities and completes without prompting.
Contributes to positive staff morale.
Effectively works with medical staff to promote positive patient outcomes.
Assigns patients based on skill mix of staff, patient needs, and while recognizing budget implications.
Knows general conditions of patients on the unit and uses the information to make appropriate changes and reprioritize as indicated.
Demonstrates calm, efficient demeanor, and is tactful and positive.
Available to staff for consultation and assistance.
Supervises less experienced staff and gives direct feedback.
Assists, resolves, or appropriately refers customer service issues.
Ensures shift activities have been completed.
Reports environmental safety issues to appropriate persons in a timely manner.
Utilizes chain of command appropriately.
Practices equitable scheduling and approves requests on posted schedule while meeting unit needs.
Provides direction and support for preceptors and orientees.
Utilized as a clinical and administrative resource.
Promotes positive image to other units, patients, families, other departments and administration.
Aware of unit needs and responds effectively, (e.g., educational, clinical, operation, and teamwork).
Promotes calm, supportive atmosphere.
Handles conflict appropriately.
Uses critical thinking skills in decision making process.
Consistently demonstrates and promotes high standards of care.
Charge nurse skills are effective.
Facilitates interdisciplinary care that improves patient outcomes and care management.

REQUIREMENTS:
1.     Licensed to practice registered nursing in the state of WA.
2.     Bachelor’s degree in nursing.
3.     Minimum two – three years of professional acute care nursing experience, with leadership experience desirable.
