AT&T has an opening for Junior Voice Network Engineer (JVNE) to support a US Govt. customer in the Northern VA area in operating, administrating and maintaining their voice network infrastructure, LAN/WAN network, edge services and back-end system and applications. The JVNE will work under the direction of small team of senior Voice Network engineers to grow and develop skills and experience in IP based real-time communications. Under the team, the JVNE will support day-to-day O&M of the voice network and application systems as well as contribute to the development of next generation voice solutions. This position will be based in the Washington DC metropolitan area.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Under the guidance of senior voice engineers support various aspects of Sponsor's enterprise voice, and/or data communications networks through all system life-cycles phases, including planning, designing, evaluating, selecting, implementation and future migrations.
  • Configure and deploy network hardware such as session border controllers, TDM/IP gateways, softswitches and/or IP telephony systems.
  • Configure and deploy unified communications solutions such as integration of real-time communication technologies (voice, video, messaging) and mobile applications.
  • Perform routine daily/weekly/monthly monitoring and administrative duties to ensure operations of the voice network infrastructure components (i.e. TDP/IP gateways, session border controllers, softswitches) and/or voice application systems.
  • Perform research and test/evaluation of new and emerging technologies (hardware and software) and supporting recommendations to the customer regarding the integration of these technologies into their existing architecture.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation (network designs, SOPs, User Guides, etc.) to support current operation procedures and processes.
Required Clearance:
Top Secret (TS) SCI w/Polygraph (#polygraph)

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Information Systems, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Information Technology or equivalent.
  • Basic understanding of TCP/IP and other LAN/WAN protocols. Basic knowledge of fundamental IP routing and switching protocols (OSPF, STP, VTP) and technologies (IPSEC VPN, NAT, QoS)
  • Fundamental understanding of VoIP architectures and VoIP technologies, particularly Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) and Secure SIP, H.323 protocol families as well as the interworking of these protocols with traditional circuit switched networks and protocols networks (ISDN, ISUP and SS7).
  • Candidate must be strong in analytical thinking and problem solving in order to investigate and troubleshoot problems, inefficiencies, and performance issues.
  • Strong oral and written communications skills as well as organization and time management skills
  • Occasional work at different locations within the Washington Metro Area and some domestic travel required.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Some basic system administration experience with Linux and/or Windows platforms.
  • Hands on experience with real-time communication products such as call control applications (Cisco Call Manager, Avaya Session Manager or equivalent), voice gateways, session border controllers (SBCs), messaging applications and/or IP endpoints/clients.
  • Hands on experience with routing, switching and network security products such as Cisco and Juniper; or preparation or completion of an associate level network industry certification (i.e. CCENT, JNCIA, SSCA).
